What is the deal with these cars? Thought they would've been faster.

This was my first run-in with one. Was on the cell, talking about Team Canada's stellar win in the World Cup of Hockey final, when I realize I'm rolling up to a red light on an empty street beside a red Dodge Stealth RT Twin Turbo with a medium tint. I hang up the phone, and there's just a single guy I can make out through the tint. I give him the rev, he revs back, and it's on!!

I'm holding the revs up at about 2000 while at the red, as is he, both waiting for the green. Light goes green, and we're even for the first half of first gear. Currently, due to my un-tuned status, my car pulls MUCH harder up high than down low, (I think because I'm running too rich -- chip en route to set me up right). Anyway, I hit the top half of first and start to pull away. I power shift second, and put a car length on him before shutting it down as there's another red light. (Not too much distance between these two intersections).

We roll up the next light. He revs, I rev, second light goes green. Exact same result! Matched through the first half or three-quarters of first gear, then my car pulled smartly ahead, powershift second, and it's over for him!! I thought these things would be faster!! That said, I just did some research on them. 3800 lbs?!?! This dude on car domain has one with HKS turbo timer parts, etc. etc., and he's only running a 14.1 quarter... go figure.

They look fast, I think some came with a 4 banger in them too. How do you know that one was a twin turbo?

I raced a RT when I first got the cougar "It was a friend" and left her way back.

Good Kill.

Hey... Those R/T's have some extra cladding, don't they? You know the red one you always saw... I know that sounds ridiculous, but I only ever can recall seeing those R/T twins in red. This one had the worn (from age) "R/T Twin Turbo" lettering on the side, and the rest of the R/T look. It's possible that it wasn't, but I'm pretty sure that it was!

Dan, there are a number of ways to tell if it's a TT, all which must be there for it to be a TT

1. 17" 5 spoke wheels (twisted)
2. Quasi-Dual Exhaust
3. 4 Piston Calipers on the front brakes

My mom used to have one, it it WAS fast. Back when they used to be new, they would haul, but rember the one you saw was probably 8-10yrs old and with a fair amount of KM's on it. As the KM's pile up the turbos tend to go as it did with ours and many other I know of (also those cars are F'n pigs - Mid 14's 1/4 mile I think with 300hp).

Good Kill none-the-less.....now when do I get to drive it?

Eh timeless -- soon! :) Chip is officially in the mail. Once the chip is in, and that rear sway issue is resolved, and I put in the new T-stat, and new mix with water wetter, and the CAI with new filter, you're good to go. Haha... OR it drops below 10*C.. ;)

Something doesn't add up here on this car. I'm pretty certain it was the 300hp TT, because I recognize it, and I'm good with cars, and it had all the correct markings on it. But sites variously list this car as high 13 second to mid 14 second quarter, and high 4 second to mid 5 second 0-60. I don't claim that my car is currently running a flat 5 sec, and high 13's... (not yet, anyway). Ah well... maybe it WAS one that was pretty beat down.... kill none-the-less I guess!

Nope, they didn't have a 4 banger. All v6's. Oh man, they are heavy as crap.

Good kill!
After you get tuned are you going to make any track passes?

Great race. I havent had the joy of taking on the TT version yet, but the non-turbos are horribly sluggish. The TT are pusing like 300hp thought arent they? Oh well, theyre still like a Cougar and a half in weight though.

AB-SO-LUTE-LY!

I cannot *WAIT* to hit the track!! Tuning is en route, and I'm in the process of dealing with heat-related timing retardation. The car feels significantly more powerful shortly after startup than 20m later due to both coolant temps (which are decent, so long as I'm rolling), and heat soak on my SRI. That, coupled with the cooler temps that should move in here in about a month means I can probably get some SERIOUSLY nice times on street tires, with hot sun heating the track, and cool ambient air getting sucked in, along with the help of the CAI, and coolant temp management solutions I am implementing.

My tires seem to hook up pretty well during hard launches (Nitto NeoGen's), so we'll see what my years of stop-light launches translates into down the quarter. Might pick up a set of drag radials for the front, or perhaps borrow a set if I can track them down.

are you sure it was a TT? stock they run 14.2 i know this because i raced one at the dragstrip and lost. the newer and later ones run 13.6 stock (vr4's same thing)

i have no doubt a 3.0SVThyrbid cougar could take a VR4

The non turbo is a 16 second car...

Which non-turbo was a 16second? There were two.

the vr4 and non-TT are 2 VERY different things.
you got your base and SL models pushin 220hp and your right..those are slow as hell.
now the vr4 is an awd/TT with 320hp stock. i did not kno that the svt/hybrid 3L had such potential. next step is to slap SC on your 3L and your set.

Depending on if the Stealth was stock or not can be a big difference too. I have a friend that has a '91 RT TT and he's got an ish load of engine/tranny stuff done, and he's pushin about 450WHP! I'm not too sure about stock, but from my experiances they're not slow cars in any way.

3800+lbs is a bit much too pull around...not to mention AWD drivetrain loss.

Hey, they need that 'road hugging weight' to keep that power to the ground, right?

The Base and the SL did not have the same power. Since we're talking Stealth's, I'll go back to that info for this. Base-164hp/185tq, R/T-222hp/205tq, R/T TT-320hp/315tq. The base, SL, and VR4 3000's are the same as these (in order).

The earlier TT's only had 305hp as I recall.
