Well, as most of your noticed I had an issue with a big rig ripping apart my fender and totaling my side mirror on the way to fest. I was able to get some F1 fenders at fest and got a mirror from Ford when I got home. Since I have a show next weekend waiting for a set of Z3's to come was out of the question.....so....I got the F1's painted and put them on today. The fitment was easier on the Z3's, and the F1's are thinner than my old Aerogears....but they are on the car!

SO....do you think I should keep these.....or buy Z3's again?

Other opinions??

I'm thinking of putting in a side marker in the fender in front of my door ding guards :)

The new fenders don't flow with anything you have done to the car currently. I say go back to the Z3s or stock. The Roush kit really isn't meant to be combined with wild body components.

I know....I miss my Z3's allready lol

I was shocked though when my buddy came over and said he liked them better....but his excuse was that it was because everone else had Z3's lol......his words "guy...I love these". Then again.....he drives a civic lol

While the Z3's are really popular, I think they looked better on your car.

Z3's definatly. i dont like the F1 feders one bit. the part that is inset has too much of a crease, rather than a nice smooth curve into the hole, if you know what im talking about. it makes it look....photoshopped...and like was said before, it doesnt go with anything else on the car. but if you do decide to keep these, i say dont put the side markers back in. it will clutter it up too much with the door guards, and huge vents in the F1's and all that stuff. and i think the F1's might look better without the door guards. but i know how much you like the door guards...

While I do like the Z3's better, you have already spent some cash to get those painted and the time to put them on. I'd say keep these on (for at least your coming show) as they are better than stock, even if they don't look as hot as the Z3's did on your car.

I'm not sure what your plans for bodymods are for your car, and how wild you plan on going. If you have other bodymods in the works, these fenders might be able to be "worked into" the new design. Perhaps something as easy as a vent that matches those fenders in the rear-quarter would help them blend better. But if you had flares planned, then you'll need to ditch these, I think, as it doesn't look like there is enough room there for a flare to run around that vent...

man those f1's really are hideous... i say go back to the z3's... they are the least obnoxious out of all the fenders available..
but make sure its the aerogear z3's and not the ones from cc... cuz those have some really ridiculous extra vents around the sidemarker.. and thats a load of crap.

"Stick with these F1's (because not everyone has them)" <--- I voted that, but it's because I think they look better.

I can't believe people are saying the Z3s match better. You have small sharp cuts mixed in with the smooth lines of the Roush kit and even the Visteon scoop and the no-limit insert are much smoother lines than the jagged Z3. I think the F1's go with the round cuts of your car BETTER, but not perfect.

I was thinking about getting the F1's, but ended up with the X1's because they matched with the Kami sides I got.

Crispy

actually I don't think they look all that bad.. if I had my way with your car I would first lose the body side molding and the headlight covers - paint the lights and I'm positive that the end result would look better. The Z3's looked good but they are way overplayed.. your just feelin iffy cuz its something new.. I did the same with with my X1's when I first put em on..

You still have your Z3's?? -- If so I got a crazy ass idea you can do to make a 100% custom fender that no one else will have if those other fenders bother you that much and you can do some glassing

Excelcier
08-02-2004, 01:40 AM
Crispy, that was similar to a suggestion I had for him too. I offered to try to rebuild the Z3 setup which would have been easy to reglass but some customization would also be easy if you're going that route too.

I personally don't care for those new fenders... not on your car. On the right car, mabye.

the reason i don't like the F1's is because of the vent location
it totally takes away from the line
i think they could have located it better to flow with the body line better
and i completely agree about taking the door ding trim piece off
maybe someone could even photoshop that for ya

I took mine off about 2 hours before leaving for fest. You could see the line a bit on mine, but I'm sure a bit of buffing would make it a non-issue.

Well I guess I am in the minority here, but I think if you remove your side mouldings(very easy to do, and hey if you don't like whats under there, just use some double sided tape to put it back on. Do as Crisp' said and paint your headlights and then add a ww high rise spoiler(or the knock off one on ebay), you will have one bbaadddd cougar. Don't get me wrong, your cougar already was freakin sweet, but probably everyone you know has seen it like it was for a while, so as I say if it breaks don't just fix it, change it(which is what I am doing right now with my coug do to a wreck). I mean you have already gone ahead and added the new fenders why not do a few more things and come out with a totally new look. However, don't just do it for others make it something you like. I think that is why you don't like them that much, because you are so used to the look you had. I say remove the side moulding, paint the headlights, add a high rise spoiler, and maybe even a predator hood or something. total price: about $600-700. and you got yourself a whole new ride. just my two cents though.

Ok...in theory that sounds great....and I've wanted a predator hood forever...but unfortunatly the prices for me are FAR different. What would cost you 600-700....would cost me close to $1750...not including the likely bill of $500 + for paint. If you think it sounds weird it's because of a few things...

1) The exchange rate, every $1.25 I make is only $1 USD
2) I get rapped on shipping as it's classified as "international shipping"
3) Once my stuff hits the border you pay a fee of 15-20% on the items for "taxes and inspection fee"
4) Bodyshops around here are scared ******** of most fiberglass stuff.

OH Yeah my bad Dan, I forgot that you live in Canada. I guess that would change everything. Sorry about that man.
In that case if your not going to make any changes I would probably go back to the z3's or something custom because they flow so perfectly with your coug. Then keep the f1's and someday if you want to change the whole look of the car, you will already have the f1's to start with.

Dan, if you wanted we could always get "big ticket" items like that shipped to my business here in Michigan. Then we'd just have to do the mod here in MI at a meet and you'll skip all those extra charges by driving across the border with it installed. =) Its an option, in case ya need it.

werd... all us Canadians need to organize a caravan down to you in April / May or something...

over the winter, we all order our isht, send it to you, and you just block off a section of your shop and just pile all our stuff there... then when the winter is over, we all head down, get everything installed and painted, then come back to Canada, a little more modded

the paint match on the F1's is allmost 100% identical. Lighting throws offthe color because of the shape in the F1....don't forget Spruce green changes alot :)
