and let me tell you, it was GREAT!
a big thanks to everyone who put the time and effort to organize it, that was definitely the highlight of cougarfest for me!
and now that i'm addicted to it and want to do some more, i have a few questions :)
how would attending a local SCCA event be different than what was at cougarfest?
course difficulty? class division? number of runs?
also, i wanted to get someone to ride with me during some of my runs, but i felt bad asking someone to come with me especially since the experienced autocrossers were the ones organizing and doing most of the work (and because they would have been dead weight  ) . at a local event, would there be experienced drivers/instructors that would be willing to ride with you and give you some pointers? for the record, my best official time was 29.658 which i think was pretty good considering most people were over 30...i think i beat that in one of the fun runs, but i hit a cone and ruined it :( but i'm sure with some help i could have gotten into the low 28's because i was just driving like a mad man out there, balls to the wall, and with no method to my madness

Glad you had fun.
At a local SCCA event you'll find the courses change depending on venue and course setter, some courses can get up to 70mph

Classifications will change pretty drastically for most people. Cause body kits and wheels move you out of stock no matter what.

Number of runs, 3 is the minimum you will get at any SCCA event, some get up to 5 that I have been to.

As for instructor runs... you should have asked... like you'll find at a local SCCA event, many people are willing to help by riding along
its a strange community but people are willing to ride along... sometimes it seems like they are too willing...

yeah, i actually wanted you to drive my car just to see what was the best time you could get out of it ;)
but like i said, almost everybody was bugging you to either ride in their car or ride with you in yours, so i didn't want to be a pain in the butt...

edit: thats the other thing i'm afraid of, i actually have quite a few suspension mods, which i'm afraid would put me in a class that i couldn't compete in

here's what i have that i can think of off the top of my head:

- roush springs
- ST200 struts
- OMP FSTB
- ST200 RSTB
- BAT rear sway bar
- 18" wheels with 225/40/18 rubber

STS, if you take out the triagulation pieces in the RSTB, but more than likely you won't be bothered, they only bother those who start winning classes.
