Solo is the SCCA brand name for autocross competition. Solo2 events are driving skill contests that emphasize the driver's ability and the car's handling characteristics. This is accomplished by driving a course that is designated by traffic cones on a low hazard location, such as a parking lot or inactive airstrip. While speeds are no greater than those normally encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and car feedback creates an adrenaline pumping experience. It is like being in a movie chase scene, only you are holding onto the steering wheel instead of a box of popcorn!

Hey, Mike, I know exactly where that is. Its down I-10 near Casa Grande. I will check my schedule for that day. If Im off, maybe we can make a trip down to check it out. Lemme know what you think.

Im not sure how they plan on doing that in Casa Grande in early August. The temp there is 100 degrees air temp no problem. If its on asphalt, that pavement will be over 140 degrees. Sounds like it will eat tires alive. Good thing they plan on being finished before noon.

Ill call tomorrow after I get home from work. A kink has been thrown into my plans for the next week or so. I got a call from my dad earlier and found out that my great-grandfather had committed suicide in California. I have not heard any plans on a funeral or anything yet, since the family is still trying to cope with what happened. So everything for the next week or 2 is now in pencil.

My funds are tight right now, so I doubt I would compete. The same thought went through my mind, but I think you have to have an SCCA license to participate, and they cost money. I will find out about just watching though, becasue I am interested in learning about autoX as well.

Events are usually free for spectators, you just need to sign a waiver saying you won't hold SCCA responsible if something happens to you. Running in an event is usually pretty cheap too. In St. Louis, entrance fees are $20 for SCCA members and $30 for non-members. This may vary from region to region though.

Damn, ours are $20 for non-SCCA members and $10 for SCCA. And we almost always do 6 runs.

Big city regions charge more for the events cause they fill up faster...
I think its San Fransisco region that only allows members, and they
are pre-registration events and they always fill up weeks ahead of time.

We are really limited on where we can run and lot rental for the sites we can use is expensive.

Hey Mike, sorry I didnt call today. I have been dealing with a lot today with my car and my great-grandfather passing away the other day. I also need tires REALLY REALLY bad! Well, front ones anyway. The LF is peeling apart. I am just trying to limp around until I can find some tires. I only need 2 right away. Do you know anyone who sells used tires for a good price?

While I don't recommend used tires, if you are in dire straites for tires check your local pepboys if they have those, or Sears, sometimes they have the ultra cheap tires that you can buy.

in english:

autocross - driving like a mad man in a parking lot weaving in and out of cones trying not to hit them. best time wins.
