I just bought a '99, and guess what? Sunroof doesn't work. The motor works, but I think the roof might be off the track. My question is this: when the sunroof is functioning properly, how does it move? Does it tilt up, then move back? Does it just move back? Does it just tilt up? Thanks.

The sunroof tilts up in the back, then slides back. Most likely the track has broken. If you push the button and hear a cracking crunching sound, it is broke. Or, if you hear the sliders moving but the sunroof doesn't move, the arms broke out of the plastic sliders. Either way - it is pretty much un-fixable. Believe me, I tried really really hard to get the thing repaired... It worked for like a week but then broke again! You need a new sunroof track. When the track is replaced with the metal rails from a later model cougar - you will be fine. However, the part costs ALOT! The best price I have found on one so far is $450 from a junkyard.
