Friday night was my first night racing at P.I.R. (Portland International Raceway).

There were probably about 50 cars there and I had atleast 15 people want to race me. I thought it was odd but then I had a realization...................everyone wanted to race me because my car was something different, it wasn't a HONDA!!! Lol....

I ended up getting 3 races in.........

The first I raced my friends Honda Civic, lets just say I won but the numbers are so horrible that I'm not going to post them. That was my first race ever.

Second time I raced another Honda Civic, as follows..

60'-2.443
1/8-10.651
1/4-15.534 @ 82.95 mph

I won!!

Last race was against a Integra LS w/headers, exahust, intake and chip....

60'-2.407
1/8-10.706
1/4-16.625 @ 82.75

I lost by .3456!

I wasn't too impressed with how my car did, but all I have is an Injen intake. Plus I had 3/4 tank of gas, spare tire in back, and some other misc junk. Im going back this Friday though, so we'll see how I do without all that!

I would hope mtx because 15.534 @ 82.95 mph is pretty good.

although that trap speed is that of a 16 second run...

You should be able to do much much better once you get the hang of your car, launching, shifting points, etc.. Takes time to grow into racing the Coug, but good runs :)

Only reason that everyone wanted to race you was because your car looked different, and well, it looks fast. My first time at the track, everyone wanted a run with me as well. Wow did they all show me up! Great thing at our track, its open from 6-9pm Friday nites, and you can usually get 10-15, sometimes up to 20 runs in a nite, depending on how hard you wanna run.

Yup, I remember going to Milan Raceway in MI during Cougarfest one year..
a guy in a Cobra was lined up next to me... was like what are you running
real serious and all, I said... alot slower than you, I let his buddy match up with him..

A couple years back, a few of us NECO NWers did a street legal night up at PIR; three of us with '99 MTXs, and one with a '69 Dan Gurney Special. Lots of low to mid 16s that night. It was a cool February evening, so the traction was pretty poor. It could have just been the conditions of the evening, but I thought it was kind of a slow track. If you venture south another 20 minutes, Woodburn's strip will have you running 15s pretty easily I think.

Our cars certainly garner plenty of attention at the track for being rare. I'm perfectly happy getting compliments on looks alone. Most people ask me how quick it is before wanting to race, when I say I'll be happy with anything in the 15s, that's when the conversation ends, heh.

My closest and most memorable race though, was at PIR, so it's all fun. :)
