Welcome to NECO. :)

The zetec motor in the focus is the same as the motor in the cougar 4cyl, aside from some difference in cams and intake manifold, trottle body, oil pan, etc. They are essentially the same thing though. If you want to upgrade engines, getting a stock focus zetec engine wouldn't do you any good. If you're stock zetec motor is roasted, then you could probably get the zetec motor, and transplant a few parts from the busted cougar motor onto the focus motor, and it should fit right in.

If you are planning on upgrading engines, the Focus SVT motor is a zetec motor (fits in cougar), with some little upgrades, if you could source one of those for cheap, it would make a nice difference in high end power. (170 vs 125) If you're interested, you should ask Al (the zetec forums moderator) about that, he's done an SVT swap into a 4cyl cougar, and I dont know exactly what difficulties he faced when he did the swap.

All the aftermarket internals for the focus should fit the cougar with no problem. (pistons, rods, cams, valves, cylinder heads, pullies, etc.)

BTW, you posted this in the forced induction forums, it would probably be better placed in the zetec 4cyl forum next time. TTYL. -Nate

if you were going to do an engine swap, go for a 3.0L since you already have some of the same mounting points. The 2.0L has different mounts than the 2.5L

it not a bad idea. if u think about it there is more of a aftermarket for the focus then a 2.5cougar. so any engine mod for a focus would work for the coug if u had a zetec.

I've got a turbo'd Zetec and if I had a V6 I wouldn't swap a Zetec in I'd turbo it and make a minimum of 50hp more or do a 3.0L swap and turbo it and do 100hp more.

Keep the V6 and do a homemade turbo for it or do a 3.0L swap/hybrid then turbo it.

EDIT and while the Focus and our Zetecs are INTERNALLY the same, externally they are different enough to make a swap more trouble than it's worth even for the SVT engine.

EDIT AGAIN: While there is a 11.9 sec 3000lb Focus doing 400+whp it's never been done on pump gas even with a built block. There is a 2.5L Contour SVT with a built block that just hit 390whp with 93 octane and 330 with 91. Granted the current leading Focus tuner is real conservative with octane and boost, there are no pump gas Zetec in the U.S. doing 300whp on street gas. There are 2.5 & 3.0L duratecs doing that though. Keep the V6, do your research and you could have yourself a monster.
