Ok, so on friday I took my car to canadian tire (obviosly a mistake to begin with but they were close) to get a noise looked at. I thought it was coming from one of the pulley's. anyways they replaced the serp belt. noise was still there. i didnt have the time to wait around anymore as i had some appointments and stuff. so i drive for the weekend, drives fine cept the noise. go to turn the car on on monday and it turns over but doesnt start. called c.t and reamed them a new a hole for a bit till they called a tow truck and got it there to look at it. i was there from 1-5 yesterday and finally went home. i just got the call this morning that they cant fix it. theyve dumped about 200 in parts and 6 hours labour in it and cant fix it. they recommended i call a ford dealer and get it towed there...so as of right now thats whats going on....i sense a big ass bill coming my way ***cry***
oil pressure fine
gas pressure a little low (30psi)
spark
battery fine
so yeah... im pulling my hair out.

get it to Ford. C.T. SUCKS!
:banghead:
That really sucks to hear man, but, and I hate to say it, you should have known better than to take it to Crappy Tire for service. I know going to Ford is more expensive, but they could have actually diagnosed the problem and you would have saved yourself one big headache. :(
Oh well, you live and learn. Next time you'll know better. :)

your cats might still be covered under warrenty. I believe it's an emmisions warrenty which should be 5 years on Catalitic converters.

Under the Emissions Defects Warranty Ford also provides coverage, including labour and diagnosis, for 8 years or 130,000 kilometres, (whichever occurs first) for these emissions parts:
Catalytic Converter
Electronic Emissions Control Unit (PCM)
Onboard Emissions Diagnostic Device
my car is over the 130 unfortunately
There is no way in hell a catalytic converter costs $900! If its just the cat, buy one, and go to a muffler shop to install it. Just as an example, CTA Motorsports (http://www.ctamotorsports.com/) sells a Magnaflow stainless steel cat for $99. $99! What can it cost to have a muffler shop install it? $50? $100? Even if they charge you $500 to install it (which they won't, i'm just making a point), its much less than the $900 Ford wants. ;)
For the fuel filter, even if you get Ford to do it, it won't be that much. I've had it done at Ford, but I don't remember what it cost. Sorry. :(

there is only one fuel filter, and its a very cheap (like under $20 i think), and it literally takes 20 minutes to install...check out the MC-NECO website for the how-to...no special tools or nothing, just jack up the car from the rear passenger side, pop a couple clips, pop the new one in, and your good to go...
don't let ford rape you on the stuff that easy and cheap to do...

A cat for that vehicle retails at $842.87.
So yes, it is possible that a cat can cost 900 bones. The deal with this cat, is that it's not only the cat, it also comes with the front pipe that attatches to the manifold. That's why it's mucho dollars.

Referring to the bold text. This is what I have stressed on these boards since my inception here. It may cost you a little bit more to have your vehicle fixed, but in the long term, you will save yourself a whole pile of money taking it to a dealer, rather than taking it too a corner shop, or CT. So now, you have to pay, the diagnostic and repair from a Ford dealer, PLUS the retarted, terrible work that you had done at CT. Whereas you could have only paid for the work at the dealer in the first place. I would be telling CT to stuff the labour up thier ass, as they (if they did) admitted that they couldn't find a problem.
That's like you, bringing your toaster oven into me, and I'm going to test it, dissasemble it, test it again, not find a problem with it, then charge you 3 hours labour.
"Yes sir, that's going to be 3 hours labour at $70 an hour, your total will be $210.00 plus taxes."
"Did you find any problem?"
"No, none at all, and your toaster still doesn't work. BEND OVER."

youre right about the assy, the ded a lot of welding underneath, i took a look and the might have even put a new heat shield on it, there was a lot of extra stuff done that they didnt charge me for too and the cut me a deal on thge labour. all in all it was a lot of money but in the end i think it was worth it, just sets me back bills wise a fair chunk...and cuts into my duty free spending at the border for cougarfest.
