Okay, I don't know anything about drag racing as I have never done it and probably never will, so forgive me if I am using the improper term for some of the parts.. However, I went to the SEMA IAS show yesterday and learned about a product that I think might help the folks who like to drag race. Its a switch that will open the exhaust cut out, so no more getting under the car to remove the flange. It's made by Quick Time Performance. It can be opened at any time, whether on the strip or on the road and it's opened using a switch. The switch is universal so there's a good chance there is one that will fit the Cougar. For those interested, the website is www.quicktimeperformance.com.

Yes, these have been around for awhile now. Not many people have them. Most people who use them have true duals and they connect them to the headers so they can flip the switch to run open headers for more horsepower. Unless one cougar owner had true duals, they would have to place one at the end of the y pipe thus eliminating the muffler and the cat. I believe they are rather expensive though.

For an electronic one, they run about $150 a pop and you usually need 2. i have one than is not electronic right after my y-pipe which helps eliminate the muffler and alot of piping. It makes the car unbearably loud. I havent opened mine in a long time, but i did open it once at the track after my first run and it dropped my time from a 15.4 to a 15.2.
