I have a automatic V6 2002 xr. A friend with a 2000 manual came over to help me. There is a place through the firewall where he ran his wires. Unfortunatly I can not run mine there. There is a big box there and when we removed it there is a bracket under it that we can't figure out how to move. There is another place in the firewall in the upper right side of the engine bay that we coud fit the wires though but we couldn't find where that spot led to. Can someone please let me know how you ran your amp wires through your firewall? Thanks,
-Peter

In the ATX, there is a tear drop shaped outlet where the power wires can go through. Its right next to the brake pedal. Inside the engine bay it would be about 1' from the drivers side fender wall. The cruise control module is also next to it. Shine a flash light from inside out to see after you push that tear shaped gasket out of the way.

Sorry about that. The dealer that was selling it had xr7 on the add so i just thought that's what it was. As you can tell i don't really know a whole lot about cougars yet. I installed my stereo into my '03 s2000 but that was quiet a bit easier than this is turning out to be. Thank you all for your help. -peter

In the engine bay is it at the very top right of the bay?

ok look by your pedals from inside the car where you would have a clutch pedal look at the sound deadaning and there is a teardrop shape cut out of it push it and you will find a big ass hole there im running 2 guage thru it and a ton of other wires and i still have room for a load more.
