well i was bored so i typed Cougar vs. ______ any and every car i can think of, on GOOGLE, the stories on the other forums, have the cougar always losing. BTW who is Chris Wilcox? just wondering cuz he was defending himself on JBO. forum today, some of the other road tales are just B.S.
My girlfriend has a cavalier. I joined up with JBO. It's an OK place, but the "J-Body VS" forum is the most whacked-out, over-inflated, hyped-up place I have ever seen. Cavaliers with an intake and exaust hanging with Cobras, Sunfires going up against 3000GTs. There are a few people who put in some serious time and money and I think got into the 13s, but a few of them come off as overly arrogant about it. There have been more fights over what's true and what's a lie in that place then I ever want to read. I just gave up on that forum. The little helpful information they gave I could easily find elsewhere.

yeah j-body.org had some funny stuff about a year ago when I went through there.
There's alot of other forums that have no clue about our car and make up stories.
But for the most part I find our car gets forgotten or dismissed by other car communities
because of the weight /size and lack of power. People don't even consider our car a threat
in a race.
which I totally understand. I mean think about it can you name a car that has 6 cylinders, and less
power than our car? that was made on or after 99.

OHHHHHHHH BIAA!! Ya found me. You talking bout me and my friend? I don't remember defending, we ran dead even. Which is sad, cuz I'm slow. My cars fixed now soooooo.... yeah. Most of those j-body vs. threads are fake though.

Just like he posted. I posted it in here already i believe. We both knew we were gonna race. We floored it, him behind me, i expected to pull (thats why he was behind me on a 2 line road), he kept up w/ me. No one pulled, no one gained. I was disappointed, my car was sick, it's not now. I was sad. The end  Nah, we'll prolly go at it again this wknd. I'll keep ya updated, our cars are VERY VERY close.

ok wait a minute. How could these guys claim the little 2.2 cav's would beat cobra's, gt's, hell even a cougar stock or with intake and exhaust? These guys are running freaking 18s in the 1/4 **rolling out of the chair laughing** and 11s and a few 12s in the 1/8!!!!!!!!! :)
I'm going to be nice and just keep my mouth shut over there hehehe.

The '99 BMW 323 had a 2.5L I6 with 168 hp and the Avenger/Sebring 2.5L V6 made 163 hp.

2003 Ford Taurus.
3.0L Vulcan V6
155hp @ 4900
2004 Buick Century
3.1L V6
Horsepower 175 @ 5200
2004 Pontiac Grand Am
3.4L V6
170 @ 4800
These are usually the weaker engine available. Not the 'sport' versions.
Remember a Cougar v6 is NOT the intended 'sport' version of our car. The Cougar S was intended to be that. Unfortunatly they killed the project. For example comparing our car, to a Integra type R is an apples and oranges comparison because the V6 cougar was not intended to be a 'performer'. Comparing the Cougar S to a Integra type R (if it would be possible) is a more accurate comparison.
Edit:
2003 Hyundai XG350 <-- I hope this was a typo, that is pathetic.
3.5L DOHC V6
104 @ 5800
2003 Hyundai Tiburon
2.7L DOHC V6
170 @ 6000
2003 Hyundai Sonata
2.7L DOHC V6
170 @ 6000
BMW 525: <-- I thought this was pretty relevant considering it's a BMW 5 series
2.5L I6
184 @ 6400

What he said :)
The cougar wasn't intended to be a sports car. It was intended to have a sporty look but cruiser. The cougar S was going to be the sport one however they killed it. But it was going to be similar to how mustangs and F-bodies were with the GT was mustangs sports and the coupe (v6) was the sporty look cruiser, although people still build them up for racing.
A guy in our club ran 13.3 with his v6 mustang saturday night :)

The Century has gained power since '99 too. In '99 the 3.1L only made 160 hp.

Our cars can be fast like any other car out there on the market. Unfortunatly it doesn't come from the factory that way.
BUT in the end, we get a hell of a lot of bragging rights if you make a Cougar a fast car. We are not the only cars in this situation. Look at the Grand AM.

Guys it's me I know the Cougar wasn't intended to be a sports model.
But I'm just saying
"But for the most part I find our car gets forgotten or dismissed by other car communities
because of the weight /size and lack of power. "
didnt we have trouble with Celica guys a while back too?
yes I challenged some Celica guy about a year ago cause he was talkin all kinds of trash
I offered to drive out to race him but he would never give me the location.
He was just a BS'r

I don't think the cougar is getting forgotten or dismissed by other car communities because of weight/size or the cougar's performance persay, however I feel it's becoming history because
A: no longer made and
B: you just don't see anything on cougars in performance magazines.
Cougar's so to speak isn't putting it's name out there anywhere. Maybe it's lack of sponsers, I don't know. Show wise, oh yea, I see stuff from Nopi or other groups where some people trick out the cougar. But the majority of the people out there could care less about show, they want performance. They want straight line grunt. You get a cougar into the 12s or lower and you should be able to get an article on at least Fast Fords & Muscle Magazine. Get their name out there somewhere. If the SVT contours could do it, SHO Tauras can do it, then so can the people who owns cougars.
But time and money is always the issue.

It's a shame though, because the Cougar is a downright georgeous car! The car was never intended/marketed for the performance minded driver. It has great handling, but that's about it. What somebody should do is take some components out of the Jaguar X-type (AWD, 3.0 liter, oh and BOOST!) and you'd have a nice contender to the WRX. With enough $$$ you can make anything fast these days. I could really go nuts with my Mustang, but then I always realize that there will always be somebody else faster than me.
Hey Raben, the guy in your club with the V6 stang must had to have some serious mods I'd imagine to run a 13.3 but it just goes to show if you're determined what you can do.

not that this has anything to do with anything but I worked in road design for a few years. And when you run simulations for a design, you use 2 cars to determine if you meet design specs, a fully loaded Semi and a ford fiesta. why a fiesta? because it is the slowest accelerating car currently on the road.
[thats how speed limits are determined for entrance and exit ramps on expressways]

If you think about it i know why our cars get dissed, all other american sport economy cars are pretty week, cavalier, sunfire, focus, neon, all of those cars are generally thought up as being girl cars or whatever. but put a cougar v6 mtx next to any of them and you'll be able to see that the cougar isn't just another american economy sports car. our V6 is low in horses becuase its so much smaller then most v6's, but i mean you know how much room there is in our engine compartment, mercury put in the biggest engine they could practically put in the car. It leaves us with some catching up to do with other v6's but we dominate four bangers, i have yet to lose to a civic or integra.
P.S. most other american cars are made in mexico or japan so I'm proud of the fact that my car has a sticker that says MADE IN MICHIGAN.
