PuckPuck and Blackcoog may be able to help me here, but other opinions/answers are welcome:)

CougarGT told me i can use my 2.5 water pump on my 2001 taurus 3L. im sitting here in my garage looking at my engine, and i cant even see anywhere that my water pump will bolt to the 3L where the pump is relating to my engine. The stock 3L pump is on the same side as the accessories. ill be using SVT cams in the 3L heads.....so what happens with the cam that drives the 2.5L water pump......im lost on this:confused:

i know i have to swap alternator over.....what about power steering?(this Q is for future reference)
also, does my 3L share the exact same engine mounting points as my 2.5L?.......................i couldnt find any of this in the 3L sticky threads

thanks for your help

~ Mark

btw, anybody want any of my 3L intake manifolds? Throttle body? Valve cover? (the front one has a hole in it), 3L Cams?

looks like maybe you got an engine from a 2001 but with an eariler build. cuz 01+ escape have them in the same place as the 2.5's. maybe the taurus still uses the water pump in the accessory area no matter what year? i dont know.

just ask someone whos doin a hybrid or who have already done the hybrid if you can HAVE their 3L head or buy it cheap. or maybe buckshot has some heads.

if i'm not mistaken i used my 2.5L water pmp and coolant hoses.... the pump is in the same area, and bolts up the same way, but the routing of the coolant lines is different....

so use the entire 2.5L cooling system

Yep.

Pre2001 engines have the waterpump on the front cover. You'll have to rig up an electric, get some 2001+ heads, or do a hybrid.

Sorry :(:(:(

You did not get a 2001 engine then.

01+ engines are oval port and have the same rear water pump as all 2.5L's do.

2000 model year had all the variations.

Started with the split port head, front w/p then switched to oval port front w/p

Rumor is some 2000's (I.E. maybe May, June models?) got the oval port with rear w/p but I have not seen any.

Also that mean you did not get the revised pistons (if you are keeping stock ones?) and the upgraded baffle/windage tray with new main studs.

You have to swap all your original accesories over. Some block mounting tabs will need to be removed. All well documented.

i have a 2001 engine, it is oval port head, it looks identical to the engine i see in puckpuck's car (the black plastic UIM and everything)

ill try using my entire 2.5 cooling system, but i dont see where my 2.5 WP housing will bolt up to the engine i have in my garage....
ill get some good pics for you guys and we'll go from there

If you dont have a cam driven water pump, the 2.5L water pump will not work.........
