well, due to some poor choices on my part, I now need a new engine...I am planning on getting a 3.0, the problem is that I don't know how it would go on, and I refuse to go to a mechanic because I don't trust them (after the stories I've heard, and my own experiences in dealing with them). Does anyone live near Charlotte, NC who would be able to help me at all? I'd really appreciate it.

I can provide you with a prepped shortblock for $1700 shipped. If you're interested in sending the car to Iowa, I can do a complete swap for you. PM me for any additional details.
Thanks,
Rick

But anyways a bit more understanding on the Subject... We recently installed a SVT EO Manifold on CougarRacinChick's car... unfortunately the manifold wasn't cleaned prior to install. We believe that SOMETHING inside the manifold was sucked into her engine. When the car was started it idled quite rough, the engine shook, and a loud "tacking" noise was present. The car idled for no longer than a few seconds...Thereafter the manifold was taken off and cleaned.. also the Cylinders were vacuumed out. The manifold was Reinstalled and the same problem was present.. the damage was already done. The manifold was taken off yet again and cleaned... and reinstalled.. after this the car would not start at all.... the engine wouldn't turn. The ECU was reset there after.. and the car would start.
After this.. i took the SVT manifold and filled it with water.... and vacuumed out the Runners.... i found chunks of metal that had been sucked out. We're not positive which car they came from.. but we believe they came from the contour that the Manifold came from...

Now... we've put a Stock manifold back on her car... but when the car is started it smokes badly, a light grey smoke. And also her EGR was loose before the install began... We've determined that most of the problems are coming from cylinder #1... when the Spark plug wire is disconnected everything seems to run fine.. but it may be more than one.
But Lindsey has decided to go full 3.0... And any help that can be given is much appreciated.

Sounds like you turned a piston into a paperweight. Do a compression test on each cylinder and figure out if you have low compression in that one.
personally, i'd just buy this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2470061033&category=33643&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1) and install it to your current engine and scrap the 3l idea as no one around you can help ya and ya dont like mechanics, it'd be cheaper, but wont net as much gains as a 3l would

If you can put a stock engine/SVT engine in you can put a 3L engine in. Just a few extra nuts and bolts and a few spots where you need a hack saw to cut off some ears on the block and the output shaft on the crank.

I've read all the 'How To"s I can fine, so I don't think I'll have a problem, only thing I would need help on is timing the engine, lol...

Why would you time it? Only reason to time the car would be if your swapping in SVT cams. Just leave the 3L cams in the car then all you have to do is swap over the 2.5L timing cover turn the pulse wheel to the 2.5L spot (remember to do this it very important it really sucks if you forget, I should know) and leave the cams/chains untouched. Otherwise timing it isn't all that hard. I've heard stories about some engines being mismarked so its harder but so far with the two I've done I spun the crank with a ratchet with the timing cover off and valve covers until all the dashed areas on the cam gears line up with dash areas on the chain. Then swap over the cams/chains or whatever and line it up the same way. Actually pretty easy. I followed the ford CD and no blown engines so far. ;)

I believe GMK is trying to convince her to do something along the lines as you yourself is doing with your new 3.0...
But in this situation the simpler the better... Since her resources are limited.
