This has been posted a few times about who's quicker. Here it is.

My friend just got his cat back installed, sounds ok, raspy on the low rpms but quicker nonetheless. Other than that, it's his only mod. I've got msds headers/ intake / borla catback and a nice little CEL. So we were coming back from getting washing our cars (in the process being pipe shot by a ram air TA, 2.2 sunfire, and some Grand Am GT tried to burn out to show off). He was behind me, I slowed down to about 40-50. He knew we were gonna race so as soon as he got close, we both floored it. Ok, now here is what surprised the hell out of me and my friend. I'm like ok, 60mph I'll start pulling. Nope. We stayed dead even all the way till 100mph and shut down. custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif It was so crazy, neither of us gained or lost any. Guess that's what 600 lbs weight diff. does to races. :banghead:

Either way, we'll go at it again once I get my cel fixed, I'll try to get a race from a stop, i'm almost sure he'll get me at the start. We'll see.

*Figured I'd add this also* What got me so much was we also ran when we were both dead stock and I pulled car lengths on him. So somethings def. up. Could his exhaust really have been that restrictive??

You guys did race side by side right? Cause the way it's written it seems like he was just behind you the whole time. Of course I could just be stupid. If he was behind you the fact he was drafting you could have helped as he didn't have to push through the window as much. I'd say the major thing that screwed you is the CEL cause that can cost you a lot of performance.

Good race
I was wondering by the way after you installed your headers
did you pull the battery for a bit to reset your ECU?

Sorry, should have made it more clear. I wasn't expecting him to keep up, nor was he. So yeah, he was behind me about 2 car lengths and we gunned it at the same time and it stayed at that 2 car lengths.

Yeah, I reset the batt. I ended up taking the alt. off just cuz there was more room. I've reset it a few times, just to see. Comes back everytime. I know the problem is the resistor, but i haven't had time to fix it. I tried taking it off and it was too short on the front, so i need to extend it.

if you get the cel can you just take it to any shop and they can fix it for ya or is there something ya really have to do???

Nah man, it ended up being my iat. I pulled the wire out the back of it while installing the headers somehow. The guy at autozone ran a code, reset, but it came back on of course. I just ended up doing the iat mod, works like a charm.

Believe it or not, the LD9 in those sunfire GT/Cavalier are actually a decent motor. It has a very smooth curve for power delivery, I was somewhat impressed when I saw a dynograph for one.
