the actual turbocharger itself

I guess it'd fit if you constructed your own piping like Seawulf & Afterhours did...

anything is possible with enough money

as for putting a krautbox into a kitty... probably not financially wise.

Just the turbo, or the whole engine? If it's just the turbo, it's totally possible, but I don't recommend that turbo. Like the WRX it's a very specific oem turbo so upgrades would be more costly than regular t-3/t-4 turbo's. If you're content to live with the flow limits of the turbo then it should do 200whp easy and give you quick spool.

NO NO NO NO the turbo from a VW will NOT FIT in the cougar.. it is a reverse scroll, it will implode and blow up the engine....BAD BAD BAD BAD

What the heck is reverse scroll?

imagine a jet engine with the impellor(s) turned 180 to spin in the opposite direction. so instead of spinning clockwise like most turbos, it is fed from the bottom and spins counter-clockwise. VW, and the EVO 16G spin like this. wereas the 1G/2G and Mazda spin clockwise.

does that make sense?

so you put a reverse scroll into a car not made for it, and get it tp spin up, it will force feed the exhaust back into the valvetrain.

fu!ckin sweet!

does the eclipse use the 16G turbo?

the 1G/2G do use the 16G turbo, but they use the clockwise spinning turbo. the EVO uses the reverse scroll. so the EVO turbo will not work on the 1G/2G's.

advantage of a reverse scroll is that it spools up faster, and it being a twin scroll, there is almost no lag at all.
the disadvantage of this is incompatibility with aftermarket turbos.

So then is the engine different as well? I thought the Evo's engine was just your standard 4G63 with a few higer tech goodies than earlier models? So basically is the exhaust manifold different as well? Couldn't you just design a different exhaust manifold to make it work?

yup, its just the exhaust manifold that directs flow, but the turbo can only spin one way.

So then basically, where the downpipe is on most turbo's on this turbo it's the exhaust inlet and the inlet is the downpipe. So it's still technically doable, but considering what would be required to make it work, you'd be better off getting a standard T3-T4 whatever. You'd also have better upgrade possibilities with a standard turbo than with the beetle unit.

If i think i know what you mean, the turbo itself is not reversed, just the scroll. the impellor blades are point backwards to allow flow in the opposite direction. so the collector is still in the same basic location and the discharge housing is also the same.

so to make it work you would need an exhaust manifold that wold allow exhaust to flow down then up.

it would be easier and cheaper to buy a nice t3/t4 or just a t3 and build it in that way.

so how would you know the difference between a regular 16G and a reverse scroll 16G?

is the "fan" just turned the opposite direction?

the cast collector would be towards the back as opposed to the front on the exhaust side of the turbo.
