I want to paint "the stock beige color" around the overhead interior light on my 99 i4.

1) How do I uninstall that plastic piece w/o breaking the switch?

2) Anyone have pics?

Does Everyone know what I'm talking about or is that confusing...?

simple - pop out the over head light, and unplug it

you'll see two screws - unscrew them, and the whole thing will fall down

pop out the sunroof button (if you have one)
pop out the led 'bar' thingy

and thats it :)

Yeah what he said........Just becareful that once you paint it, if you try to take it out again you don't scratch the paint. I made that mistake on mine when it was first painted.

ouch - that's be a b*tch...

now, i don't have an "led bar thingy" or sunroof button. Do I just pry on the whole plastic cover till it pops out of the "ceiling"? Or do I somehow take the light out of the cover first?

Take the light part out first...then it is just two torque screws and you are there...

DO NOT PULL ON THE PLASTIC PIECE SURROUNDING THE LIGHT w/o taking out the screws..

Then there are two or three pressure clips towards the front but you just pop it out.

if you don't have the lights/sunroof you probably just see a harness or nothing...don't worry about it

Thanks

push up on the part nearest the back of the car and there is a little slot where you can use a flat head screwdriver or get your finger nail in there and pop down the light.
