Okay, I'm going to buy a short shifter for my 2.5L. But I'm not sure I wanna spend the cash for the B&M, so I have 2 questions:

What is everyone's experience with the Ebay Shifters that look just like the B&M?

My second question is: Will the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter for the Focus fit a V6 cougar?

Thanks for the help in advance!

i heard from one guy on here that his Ebay short shifter broke, and the distributor would not give him back his money. :(

I bought the Steeda Tri/Ax through the Group Buy at the Contour Enthusiast Group (http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php). I think you can still get in on it. I paid $105 shipped.

Ive heard bad things about the one off of Ebay. If you're looking at that price range Id suggest the Custom Cougar shifter. Its only 50 with shipping and I have had no issues with mine.

I'd beware of the cheap ones off of eBay. The weak point of the shifter is a weld on the lower ball joint - if that snaps, your more than likely going to be stuck in neutral.

I'd suggest the B&M or the Steeda. I know that B&M is reputable brand and I believe that the shifter has a good waranty.

The Steeda requires a little work to get it in the cougar. If you have a 99-00 (with a metal shifter assembly), then you will require a homemade riser plate. If you have a 01-02 (with a plastic shifter assembly), then it will fit, however, I'd suggest removing the plastic trim piece under the shift assembly.

In case you had to ask - I'm running the Steeda shifter with no problems over the past year.
