Hey guys. I just thought I would see what you guys think about what I am about to do... my 99 cougar is definately getting up there in the miles with 106k on her, and it seems like a bunch of things are going wrong all of a sudden. I just changed the alt about 7 k ago and now it seems like both the front and back struts are going bad and the rotors on back are also deciding to call it quits. I am trying to decide if I should just fix what I got or trade the cougar in. I found a sweet looking 99 red cougar over by ames.. nevada for those of you that are from around there, and it only has 53k on it and is a 5 spd. I am really thinking about taking out a student loan and getting it. They said they would give me around 3500 or 4 grand for mine and the other one is selling for 6800. So it would cost me right around 3 grand or alittle more to get it. Just hit me up with what you guys think i should do.

the tranny is worth the trade alone.. do it.. I often thought about it myself but with what I currently have invested in my cat I would be stupid...

yeah that is what i was thinking. There is alot more I can do with a 5 spd then an auto. But hopefully my parents let me take out the money to do it. I thought it was kinda fun to drive, i went and test drove it today and couldnt believe how much more horsepower it had compared to mine... but i think the tranny might be going out on mine anyways.

looks like a non-sports package though.. so you need to do a drum to disc conversion right off the bat if those 15's really do belong on there..

With the amount of miles you have on it and being a college student that can't afford to pay a huge repair bill i would rather pay a small monthly payment.

I doubt i would go another Cougar though, expecially a 99. With all the problems the 99's seem to have you might be making a gamble going with another one. The Cougars are nice but there are alot of nice cars in your price range.

If you insist on another Cougar i know there is a White 99-00 on a used lot on University and Hubble in DSM. I can stop and check it out for you if you want.

It is a non-sports package, but it does have 4 wheel disc brakes. Offer is on the table if you ever want to consider it, email me alan@project27.net

what problems on a 99? I think there were a few out there that were bad but not all of em... I've got a very early 99 and the worst problem I ever had was replacing the alternator once and that was within a week of putting my system in so I sorta blame myself on that one.. otherwise normal maintance shizzy like anyone else..

My car came with 15's and a non-sports package but had the 4 wheel disc brakes.. your car like mine or did you just ditch your 16's and slap someone elses 15's on..

right now I think my only option is sellin my car to some geeked out kid and startin over or a tranny/engine swap sometime down the line.. way too much cash went into my car and as of this moment its just adding up... the mod train will be stopping soon though - the exterior will be done later this year and never change again..

That sucks that you might be getting rid of your car crispy. I can understand the whole wanting a 4 door but i am just too happy with my cougar. I guess I just kinda like the little things about it kinda like the digital gauge in the speedo that tells you how far before you go empty and just some of the little stuff like that. I am really set on getting another cougar. I do kinda want a 01 or 02 but dont know if I can afford it. I think i might try to get my grandparents to loan me the money then pay them off once i get a job after college *only one more year, yippee!* But i test drove the 99 5 spd i was telling you about and definately liked it. And then i test drove a green 01 with v6 auto non sport with drums on back. It was nice and they were giving me close to 5k for my car which i thought was pretty good. I found the car i really wanna get except for it is an auto. It is a 02 Black XR auto, with cloth seats and they are asking 13450. But who knows. I am getting my car in on friday to check the transmission and the struts and everything else. So maybe I will know more then. and also i got to thank you guys who think i should ride the bus... :( i see people really dont like me on here. Just kiddin

Been the 4 door route. Nothing like a sportier 2 door to make you feel right. Still have an Isuzu Trooper if I feel the need to have others ride along.

Casey, where you looking at in Ames/Nevada. I live in Ames and head the IT dept at Burke in Nevada. If I can be of help...

I went by there last night. The car looked good. The guys selling it don't move from their posted price on the car. Nice enough guys, but wouldn't deal. You can also talk to Thomas at amescars.com. If he doesn't have any cougars in stock, he will find you one. That's where we got the three black cougs. They are on east Lincoln Way in Ames. Tell him Steve sent you. Between my boys and I, we bought 12 cars from him in the last 5 years. They are also helping us with a few mods on our cougs, giving us access to his full shop and mechanics when we want.
