Anybody wanna list any 1/4 mile predictions for next race season?
Any new mods that are going to get you there?

OK... I guess you guys are shy
so I'll start
My only prediction for next year is I will atleast be running 14's
My new mods for next year are:
Tru Bendz test pipe
CC Short throw shifter
My new MAF plate
Titan CAI
Venom VCN-1000 kit
I'll run my first time back at the track with a 55 jet depending how I feel with it
I will probably run a 75 jet the next time I go to the track.
My main problem. TUNNING I have over sized injectors and the car needs tunning
desperatley. Another problem I have nothing to tune with.
May be getting the MAFterburner but that's a big maybe. Not even sure what's going on
with it yet. So there are my predictions.

Im hoping for a time lower than 15.1 . I Gteched that time late last year with a 50 shot and no tuning at all. Im not really sure what to expect after all is said and done though.

Sounds good man
With proper tunning you should notice some nice gains.
Are you going to run it at CougarFest (sorry if I asked you before I forgot the answer)

Yeah the good thing about the new AFC that I got, is that it gives me the ability to jump between to different maps, one for daily driving, and one for agressive driving with N20. Thats one of the main reasons I got the second gen AFC. And yeah I should be running at Fest.

Sounds kick ass George
Can't wait to finally see your car in person.
The S-AFCII seems like the best way to go for me right now.

I hope to nail 14s N/A.
and 13s on the Juice.
With a track weight of 26xx or less. (currently 2680 with 19s, i wont be running with the 19s obviously)
I will be doing some dyno tuning soon as well as some exhaust and suspension upgrades. (traction is good!) Hopefully I will be able to tune my car to at least 175fwhp all n/a. Hopefully more. Time for a custom chip and some other goodies!

Sounds good dude!
Yeah that was always my Goal run 14's N/A
and I feel that the car definetly has that time in her but with my current
rich condition it bogs hard off the line or I get hardcore wheel hop.
I still have some minor tricks up my sleave to kill the wheel hop
I'm looking for a 14 N/A (after tunning) as well but not holding my breath.
I would love to do the weight reductions like you did Ken
but I just don't have the cash right now.
Nice job on the cars guys!

have you tried running a solid front motor mount? I have a solid steel compete replacement unit. even with my dead struts NO Wheel Hop. Nothing but smoking those tires. I hope to reporduce the one I have and start selling the cheap.
Most of my weight reduction was free. Other than my CF hood and Lightweight seats that is.
I still have some more things to do to help reduce weight, including lightweight seat brackets, and hopefully soon Polycarbonate rear hatch glass and other window replacements. (which by the way if you are interested in getting some PM me! We need at least 3 peeps to get these made. Price should be less than the OEM glass.)
I really feel that weight and traction are the 2 things which really kill the Cougar/Contour's ablity to lay down some good 1/4 times. I hope to find a solution for both soon!

I'm hoping to dig into the 14's but it will be my first time running the car at the track. Last time a few days before I was about to go my girl friend borrowed the car and the hood flew up causeing $4,000 in damage. Not her fualt but man I was pissed. Mid to high 14's would be nice.

Thats awesome! how does it perform now with those mods? I dont see the deleted LIM butterflies causing a problem off the line on the drag strip....well it comes back to traction..too much power off the line is bad and will net lots of wheel hop..once your past 4k the engine should scream! And since you wont be dipping out of the secondaries you're cool
I am also glad to see you Ditched the Pace Setter exhaust! Rumors say it caused a loss in HP. The TruBendz is a far supior power adder.

Non cougarish but I'm shooting for low 11s jucied and upper 11s, low 12s NA.
Upcoming mods:
Headers/OF-Y
LS6 Intake
Weight reduction -- need to bring down to 3300/3400lbs. (currently 3750 with tools in trunk heh)
NX Stage I kit with Gen-X2 upgrade. (maybe their race version of 100 - 250hp shots, havn't decided yet)
With that setup, from what I've seen on LS1 tech, NA I could come close to 11s if I cut some 1.50s - 60' But low to mid 12s is a given. I should be mid 12s now. . will find out in a couple of months.
And with a 100 shot I could slice anywhere from .6+ tenths of a second, maybe a full. Just have to wait and see.

Raben, F-body's dont count:cover:
lol, i say that when in a year im getting a WS-6 when i pay the coug off:rofl:

agreed Instigator!
NA I could come close to 11s
I never liked you Raben:biggrin: j/k dude

LMAO!
Intisgator. . .that would be really sweet man. If you can, get a WS6 and you'll be very pleased I'm sure :) Either way, WS6 or an SS. . both are one hell of a performer. If you get the 2002 you may be lucky and find one that has the LS6 block
Bone stock you should run very low to mid 13s easily. Bolt-ons and a good set of tires, anywhere in the 12s. You reduce the weight you may tap 11s with stock internals. There's several that's done this with auto's but big stalls though. One guy though with a fully loaded TA that I'm comparing myself too, has all the bolt ons (which I am missing the LS6 intake and Headers) a good tune and 2600 stall with factory 3.23 gears. . .removed the front sway bar, passenger and rear seats, rear seat belts, jack, spare and anything left in the trunk. He ran NA 11.97 :D
So I figure I should be real close. I have a 3500 stall and 3.73 gears, same bolt ons but no headers and still have the LS1 intake. So with that I should net a very low 12 I think when I remove those parts. That would be sweet!
I'll keep you guys posted I'm sure :D hehehe.

hey raben, do you venture in the f-bod hideout? I cruise that board a lot at work and read, kinda curious if you are on it.

My goal is to be in the 15s NA by late 2004 in my atx. Probably with these mods
CAI
Gutted Pre-Cats
Test Pipe w/ High Flow Cat
Trubendz Single Exit Exhaust
3.0 UIM and TB
Custom Street Flight tuning
Less than 3000 track weight with me in the car
Think that is possible?
EDIT: Just for reference, I ran a 16.61 stock w/o any of that.

thats nearly .7 off your current time. LONG shot if you ask me. Your car already weighs 3200+lbs Stock. Not to mention the added weight of the dual exhaust.
The fastest NA atx 2.5 is still only running what? a 15.9? And he has done more than that. Hell even Mr.Froge ran a 16flat? It is however a good goal to shoot for.
I will stress it again. 3.0 Or Nitrous...& Serious weight reduction. That will give you some numbers to talk about.

I'm not getting dual exhaust.
I think you missed one important thing. Sure my car weighs like 3200 lbs. But it really weighs 3400 when I get in it. I want it to weigh 3000 with me in it. That is a weight drop of 400 lbs.....
EDIT - And I may be able to get it lower than that ???

GMK... for weight reduction why when u modded ure car did u now shave that rear window wiper?? The motor in there is heavy as hell ....

if everything works as should with good traction .i thinking high 12s with 11 lbs of boost(s/c).

I just want to break out of the 17's. Last year my fastest time was 17.13 with headwind and humidity. I was running stock engine (with KKM), 18's, with the sub/box AND spare in the trunk. I was just hitting 3rd gear at the finish line which was killing me. As for exaust, stock with split quasi. By the way, I have an early 99 ATX....so yeah, 2 things against me 1) Non SVT lower 2) ATX :)...Next year I'm hopeing to hit 16.5 with the following...
SVT UIM
SVT LIM
SVT TB
CAI
Brullen y-pipe
Brullen Quasi dual
I want a chip, just can't afford one. But I'm thinking those mods SHOULD get me at least 16.5
GrandMasterKhan
02-08-2004, 05:10 PM
I did not shave the rear wiper.
I like having it....But I am thinking about removing it. If its heavy enough I just might.
I kinda want to avoid removing any more weight from the rear of the car until I can properly balance it by removing more weight from the front....I dont want to have too little weight in the rear....Bad for handling.

These are the mods I've done in the past 6 months:
- Magnecor Hi-Performance Ignition Wires
- Weapon R Headers
- Custom 3" cat-back single to split dual exhaust
- Ravin Z-55 series mufflers
- Midas series 3" glasspack resonator
- SVT cams and 19lbs injectors
- Street Flight Super Chip with dual stage for aggressive driving and nitrous use
- A'PEXi S-AFC II for extra tuning
- SPEC Stage II Clutch
- Torsen Limited Slip Differential
- SPEC Flywheel
- SVT Motor Mounts
- SVT Torque brace
- GC coil overs
- Venom VCN-1000 (100 shot on the track with pulled timing from the SF chip)
- GMK CAI (soon...)
Hopefully all those mods will move me into the 185 to 190 fwhp range. I'd like to run 14's N/A and 13's on 100 shot of nitrous. I don't know if it's possible since my cars so heavy, but those are the numbers I'd like to see.

Update on the beast :)
Not concerned with making any faster for once hehe. Instead I'm shooting for hopefully a win at bracket racing in a trophy class. That's my goal as it stands now. I've gotten bored with just going fast and running down the track on test n tune nights. I want to gain something out of it :)

when it comes to bracket racing it's alot easier to win with a slow car that is easily
controlled off the line.
Kid out here took Whoop ass Wednesdays with an automatic 80's LTD running 17's
he was hella consistant.
I'm not sayin you can't or won't win but it's alot easier with a slow car.
Good luck mang!

Thanks gyger :) Yea I've been debating that as well. Seems like those Ford LTD's are the poo for bracket racing hehe. A dude in a green LTD won 10 grand at beech bend one year and he was running 20s hehe. But he was hella consistant which is the key to bracket racing.
I might run the family hauler hehe, '03 Grand Am GT1. I haven't done anything to it so might run it a few times and see what happens.

I know if I was in your posistion I wouldn't be able to race a Grand Am over a 330whp Trans Am
that's why I can't win at bracket racing. I'm never able to leave anything stock or race a slow car
when I know I have a faster one in my garage
Raben

yea that's true too. When we go out I usually tend to let her drive because of that hehe. Its hard going back to a slower vehicle :)

As for an update on the stang...
I have most of the basic bolt-ons out of the way (well, no headers yet). But now I'm trying to decide on tires! The stock goodyears ZR45's are slowly turning into something that resembles hard plastic. I'm trying to decide between getting a set of 275/40/17 Nitto 555R's for the stock rims or going all-out and running some 15X10 Weld drag-lites in back with skinnies up front. I probably wouldn't go much faster with the 15s because I'd still just be on drag radials (for the sake of my stock axles), but they would look so bad-ass on the street... hehe.
I'm hoping to run a 13.0-13.2 on stickies... Breaking into the 12s would be nice, but I doubt I'll be running 12s without a lot more practice and a little more horsepower.

Frank you gotta post a picture of you Stang!
I love the newer years.
one of my dreams is gutting a 2001 or newer and dropping
my 460 in it when I'm done. But that's way down the road.
good luck on the 12's keep us updated
Raben

Frank, we have a guy here in our group (TN Speed) that has a 03 Mustang GT, all bolt ons except headers and hasn't had any tuning. Nearlly all the suspension work you can do along with a set of stickes. 5 Speed. His best last year was 12.8 @ 102. Think he was cutting 1.5s all day.
Since then he's gotten headers and not sure if he's spraying or not this round. But should be a better performer.
I think with practice, good set of stickies and a beefed up suspension you'll break the 12 mark. Especially where you are at now. . .you're knocking on their door :)
