View Full Version : Two more things... member donations and how-to's

Just like in the title...

First off... member donations. i had one generous member that donated product this past Fest offer to do the same for this coming year. Examples of past donated product are car wash supplies and motor oil. If anybody else wants to donate anything, shoot me a PM. :)

Also i'm open for suggestions for some how-to demonstrations, something that was lacking last year. This may be two-fold, since if a certain how-to gets a lot of interest then we'll look into either getting it donated to us or just buying it. Don't expect a 3.0L conversion how-to though.

Thanks.

as for donations why don't you contact pepboys or one of those places and see if they would be willing to supply stuff for raffles.
ie: cleaning stuff, oil, gift certificate

Believe me... i'm contacting EVERY company imaginable for donated product. We already already have three raffle items, and this is only October. i have a list of literally 25 companies and i'm thinking of i'm still in the process of compiling more. We will have more raffle items than 2002... guaranteed.

This thread is about MEMBER donations. That donation doesn't have to be a product, but can also be a service... i.e. a donation of time. An example of this is last year RiverRojo offered to recharge Air Conditioners for free. All anybody had to do was bring the refrigerant. i think i'm the only one that took advantage of this too. ;)

Also i'm still looking for feedback on how-to's, something that was absent this past year. In 2002 there were how-to's performed for gauges and a SVT TB. :)

Ahem... alright... organized how-to's then. ;)

I have a ST200 brace that needs to be installed. Perhaps we can do a how to on that.

That could work... if you can wait that long to put it in. :)

If I come, I could do a full demonstration on Automobile Detailing, if there is any interest in that.

Careful with how-to's. We had them at hckc, and it was difficult to get them done on time, with everyone watching. Maybe a good idea would be to make a specific area for where how-to's will be done. So if anyone wants to see them, they know where to go.

ignernt
10-03-2003, 01:19 PM
Of course that's how they'd be done... ;)

How about doing how-tos with the winners of the raffles. If the raffles were done in the morning then the how-tos could be pre planned just do them after the raffles are done with the winners.

Part of why the how-tos in hckc was that yeah there was a schedule but none of us looked at the paper with the schedule after it was in our pockets. If there were something like a large bulliten board outside or a bull horn to announce it more clearly and had them all in one spot it would be much easier.

Im alll up for demonstrating how to remove orange reflectors in '01 headlights now that Ive done it:biggrin:

Removing the orange reflectors may work... :)

If anyone would be interested... I could do a how to on installing a Zex dry system. I could go over:

Installation of the lines and bottle.
Installation and wiring of the control box.
Installation of the arming switch.
Installation of an air/fuel guage.
Installation of a window switch.
Forming a universal pillar pod to fit on our pillars.
Installation of plugs.
Installation of tranny cooler.
Basic tuning.

The only two problems with this that I can think of are:
1: This kit will only work on a 99 cougar return fuel system. I don't know if there is enough interest.
2: This may take a while. To do everything listed, we are looking at like 3-4 hours of work. That is if I would actually install one on someone's car. Otherwise I can give a walk through using my car as a model. I could probably cover everything enough to give a good understanding in about 1/2 hour.

The offer is open if you think there would be any interest.

a demonstration of precat gutting would probably be effective. i've heard lots of people asking how to do it. and lots of us have already done it, so it shouldn't be a problem getting someone to demonstrate, i'd help.

Ask Crispy and James etc about all the How Tos we had planned at HCKC, they had a huge list printed out and I m sure someone has it saved. It listed who, what, when, and where. That could give a basis for asking people to help again. I know I did an intake and was supposed to do neons etc but the rain made that kinda difficult.

But I along with many other people can do alot of things, as I know you can too. So I would say after we throw out suggestions of what can be done we then have people volunteer to do them.

I recommend precats, neons, intakes, gauges, gauge overlays, gauge pods w/ gauges, rear strut bars, stuff like that. That can be done with cordless tools or just plain out hand tools.

I think we should do a how-to on changing oil! You'd be surprised how many people don't know how. I say we volunteer all of the NorCal and SoCal NECO cars that drive to CougarFest. Mostly because with the amount of miles we're driving in one shot, we'll have to get oil changes when we get there before we leave anyway.

(Can't blame me for trying. ;))

that's actually a really good idea.
I already know how, but I still think it'll be helpful for some people.
save them some $$ in the future because they'll be able to do it themselves.

Or maybe we can find out if a garage would be willing to rent us their garage for an evening? I don't think the hotel allows fluid changing in the parking lot.. that's what I remember from last year..

RiverRojo

The changing of any fluids is strong encouraged. Car related or not.

with the level of current pc technology, maybe it would be benificial to do the how to in a remote location or before fest, by the real experts on the mods they are the best at, record them, and have them burned to DVD to sale at cougarfest. this would serve the purpose of eliminating the how to problems, asuring that all get a good view of the how to, and help raise additional funds for cougarfest 2k4, 2k5, etc. it would be dificult to put together but there is still 7 almost 8 months till fest and the winter mod season is upon us. just an idea

I have a couple extra set's of manifolds with the catalyst still in them, so I can demonstrate the Pre-Cat removal and MIL creation....

I also have 2 new sets of Four strobes with controller (liteglow... 3 flash patterns, speed etc.) If who-ever is doing the Strobe install, I'll sell both set at $20 each...

If anyone want's hints or tips or help with polishing things, I can provide some good ideas.

I have a stock UIM that will be brought along as a demo. at the beginning of the weekend it will be stock, by the end, it will be polished (if I can find a good amount of dremel felt buffing wheels).
