A 2000 Cat (just - January) when we bought it 18 months ago only 23,000 on the clock now its up to 60,410. My wife does a lot of miles!! No problem with stone chips though, when I bought it I had some sort of coating put on (cost £200) to protect the Cat from this, unfortunately does not work on Tesco parkers and the doors!

What do you mean by coating? I have heard you can buy clear thin sheets of plastic that you stick to new paintwork to protect it from scratches etc....and when the plastic gets scratched you just peel it off and stick on a new piece......is that the same sort of thing?
I was looking at that for when I get my front bumper, bonnet and new wings re-sprayed.
If not......tell me more please....

Its called "diamondbrite" and I had it done when I bought the car. I've no idea what it is but it came with a 7 year guarentee against rust, surface damage etc. It was claimed to "keep your car in showroom condition". So far I've had no chipping (obviously a large stone would leave a dent), bird lime and tree sap don't etch into the paint and even the car wash (I have been known to use one) hasn't left any marks. Only problem with it is that you can't respray easily. - Pete

pete- diamond brite wont protect your car from stone chips. its a paint protection, it gives you a little bit longer to remove bird crap and tree sap but if you leave them on the car for too long the acid from them will eat through the diamond brite anyway. the paint work can be sprayed but the diamond brite must be re-applied afterwards.
mines a 99 S with 45k on it btw

Mines a 99 T with 84K miles and having the car from new, I've done most of them!
My Cat's also had the 'diamondbrite' treatment when it was new. The paintwork is still sparkling and I've only polished it a handful of times (using the diamondbite conserver of course). Bird crap and tree sap are no problem. As for the stone chips, I have plenty!

 Guess I'm lucky then not having stonechips - but my previous car (Citroen XM) had a similar shape front end and had loads, I had assumed that the treatment provided the protection. 36,000 miles and no marks suggests some degree of protection, or perhaps I drive too slowly:evil:
Hello, I'm new too. I'm due to take delivery of my soon to be pride and joy on Wednesday morning. It's a 2000 W with 37K on the clock. Can't wait.

Mine's a september 99 model, i've just had a belated 30K service at 35,500 miles and an MOT at the same time, the whole lot came to £239
D'oh
Tomorrow is no longer the day. The dealer just rang and said he doesn't have the Registration Document from the previous owner yet. Without that the car cannot be taxed and therefore we wait.
I was looking forward to cruisng up to Glasgow tomorrow. I will still go, but will be far less cheerful in a Mondeo. If anyone sees a grumpy ba$t@rd on the M6, be sympathetic.
