What the frig is a suicide knob?? I thought it might have been something you press after you have plumbed yourself into the car and then you press the button followed by a couple of thousand volts going through your ass !
hummm.......wonder if there would be market for that sort of thing!! :stupid:

Hey active, not sure if you are pulling peoples whatsits but a suicide knob clamps around the steering wheel rim of cars with more than 5 turns lock to lock, as an aid to turning corners: just grab the knob and start cranking. So named because you could drive with just the left hand increasing the potential for crashes, the right arm of course being around your sweetie's shoulders (USA).

Well, well, well......cheers Baize...you learn something new every day......my mate had one of them on his car coz he only had one arm....never knew they were called that. Oh...and for a giggle, his nickname was "Fruity"......so called because of Olden day fruit machines....otherwise known as "one armed bandits".....cruel I know....but he realy liked it !!

Not sure about popularity Active, know that they are illegal in some states. Not sure of their status this side of the pond though.

As previously described, they were somewhat popular on cars in the US and sometimes called a 'neckers' or 'suricide' knob, to be able to have your right arm around your lady's neck, shoulder or lower- with cars before the early 1960's, before seat belts, bucket seat and power steering and trucks (lorrys to you UK'ers) before modern ones with power steering. Nowadays very rare, only used today for persons with a handicap permit where primary driver has only one arm. Otherwise they are illegal and won't be able to pass inspection. They could be chrome, hard plastic, sometimes with cartoon like pic or logo on top face of it. Reference to 'brody' in the product description is a slang term for suricide. Comes from a man named Brody who was the first man in the 1880's(?) to attempt to commit suicide by jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge (between Manhattan and Brooklyn NY, over the East River.
