got flames (http://www.gotflames.net)

Not that I would ever do that to my coug. I think this would be sweet on an old impala or GTO tho.

I know that in order to do that you can not have a cat on you exhaust or it will destroy it.

I've seen people use an ignitor w/ some propane fed from a small bottle in the trunk. It's after the cat, so something like that wouldn't affect it. Just don't get hit in the rear end...

I read into having this done a while back. It is true that you can not have a cat on the car. The flames come from extra gas that is unused and blown out the exhaust. If you had a cat, it would turn the gas into an emissions safe (non burning) gas and not work. You can do this to a cougar, but you just have to run a straight pipe and headers. May possibly work if you gut the precats instead of getting headers. They sell the kits on ebay, just look up "flame thrower." The installation sounds pretty easy, and is not expensive. If I remember correctly, they sell for about $100. Although I think that this would look very cool on a dual exhaust cougar, I decided not to get it because of the possibility of my bumper melting!!!

My thoughts from my past running rich experiences...

If the flames were coming from the unburned fuel from the engine, the engine would have to be running incredibily rich for that much fuel to reach the end of the pipes and be able to produce flames like that. This would make the cougar very slow and the plugs would have to be cleaned at least once a month or the car would stop running.

also if there were any cats on the car, the fuel probably wouldn't reach the tips and eventually the cat will clog and the car wouldn't run at all.

The propane idea would be much better.

Well a some of you guys are right. The way old hot rod guys use to do it was by getting an old model T coil and putting some spark plugs in the pipes, about 4-6 in from the tips. Then run the car and cut the spark, this drops a lot of un burnned fuel, the sound you would hear would be the fuel burnning not the car running. To me this is not necessary, not worth the risk. This is dangerous for you , your car , others and ILLEGAL.

yeah maybe so...im getting old...damn university sress. Then again wait till you see it in action and have it go up yoiur exhaust pipe into the engine of a vette...

I do it by accident. Happens with 3 inch exhaust pipe and not cat.

Here you go. Remember that you have to get rid of your cat and precats. And be careful to point the flame away from your bumper so it doesn't melt!

On fuel injected cars you take a big risk of damaging components. Most of the cars that have this done are carberated.
