1. sho shop has been known to overcharge. a junkyard engine will be fine, depending on mileage

2. no, you will need some tuning though.. but and svt ecu would work great with your 19# injectors

3. yes

4. better clutch and I think a lighter flywheel?

for under $1,000. Would a junkyard engine be worth the risk?

2. Would the engine computer have to be changed to match the 3L?

3. Would my 2.5L transmission etc. work on the 3L?

4. Is a SVT Contour 5 speed better than a Cougar 5 speed?

These have all been asked hundreds of time in this forum.

Do a little research, thats what I had to do.

People PM me all the time asking for a listing of part numbers, and a complete how-to on the swap.
LAZY!

Did you have to make any internal engine mods to supercharge
your 3L?
Well then 2 things must be...

Either these unfound "some people" need to get a frickin' clue and wake up because the stock compression ratio of the 2.5L is 9.7:1 and the 3L is 10:1

or...

You do...

BTW - WTF does an "intrepid" (built by Dodge or "perhaps" the Star Trek ship) have do do with any of this... :ugh:

ok guys...go easy on the newbs. I know it's easy to back them but lets fight nice.

now it's my turn

pythagoras: you need to search man...and if you need to consult with someone then talk to buckshot. He's the man for 3L conversions.

Unless you really want to get into swapping out the subframe, transmission, and engine mounts in your car, then it's not a good swap for an I4 car. The easiest is to start with a 2.5 V6 car. I'd figure a good additional $1500+ over the cost of doing it with a V6 car. As far as total cost goes, it depends on what all you do yourself and what all you buy. A prepped shortblock runs $1700 shipped from www.BuckshotMotorsports.com

Why get rid of the I4...

Part of me wishes i got a 4 banger cougar...

Some of the Turbo Zetec's put down amazing amounts of power.... I'm not positive but I think a Zetec has been able to put down more power than any duratec??

Cougaritus, Part of you needs to know the Cougar Zetec I4 is no WRX

It would be costly to upgrade a Cougar I4 to match that of A stock WRX that has a 4
banger boxer engine pushing 227 hp the STI is around 270 to 300 hp and it's faster than
most 3L Cougars with lots of upgrades. You can spend about $3,000 to $4,000 into a WRX
and you could have 600hp or more.

But A Cougar is like a Harley, it looks good and sounds good.
