View Full Version : What else anoys you with your cat?

1) You have just cleaned your car, you have leathered it off, you have waxed it and in the procedes of polishing it, then water runs from under the rear lights cluster and it doesn't matter how much you try to get the water out. It runs out when your polishing.

2) The Rear wiper could maybe have had an intermitten wipe, rather than being left on all the time.

3) Does anyone else have trouble with the adjustment on these seat belts? :banghead:

Does anybody else have any silly gripes?

You what!...how dare you criticise our lovely cars! :banhim:

What annoys me is the creaking of the dashboard and centre console when I drive over bumps.

I know something that will top all your gripes.

The fives tones every single time you start up the engine. GRRR

I have never got into the routine of putting my seatbelt on first, and I always remember I should put it on first once ive started her up.

My neighbour annoys me, after washing my car I park it in the drive, I wake up the following morning and one side of my car is covered in sand and other debris. He’s having block paving and all the sand moves over and covers my car.

I also get annoyed with the creaking dashboard and even the little compartment near the cigarette lighter has started making noise.

The remote key, I think the buttons should have been softer, it doesn’t always operate as soon as you press it.

The biggest hate is the seats moving out of position every time you move it forward to let someone in the back. It should have a way of remembering what position it was last in.

I have got to agree totally with Active, i have 2 kids so when i open up the seat to let them in:cry: i have to reset the seat again!!!!!! I have never had another car that has this problem, i thought it was just my cat!
I also have a slight problem with water from the rear light clusters but as i also have the rear light covers i kinda expected this one.
Apart from them though i love the car when i get to drive it!!!!

I too agree with the seats.
Firstly seat slides forward to allow access to the rear.
Child climbs in.
Child lifts feet/legs in the air. (or places them on other rear seat ! (aaarrrggghhhh)
Seat gets slid back until the chair is almost in the childs crotch
Seat can then be slid forward to enable child to lower legs and feet back onto the floor !

What a God aweful design. A mate had a Hyundai once that did this and I remember joking about how only a company like Hyundai would be so stupid to install a seat like that in a car. custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

Well guess who's laughing now?

Only other gripe (apart from the fact the car weighs 10 tons) is the centre armrest console. No matter how tight you do up the ickle screws in the bottom, the whole thing still sqeaks and rattles. Just to remind you how cheap and tacky the plastic realy is I guess........sigh......

You can count me in on the rear seats too, I have just started having a toddler on the back seat, sliding all the way back isnt so bad with the littl'un, its when you got a 6 foot mate in the back and asking them to crunch up while you adjust the seat.

You can get a 6 foot person in the back? Are you sure you've got a Cougar? I've travelled in the back and at 5'9" can't do to far; a passenger needs to be less than 5'6" to do so in comfort.

For me the worst thing about the (99) Cougar is changing light bulbs. - Pete

I also have problems with water running out from the door handles just when your'e polishing

The worst thing I hate is passengers who hold onto the window whilst getting in and out of the car, leaving fingerprints!!

How about when you are driving along with the windows down, and you need to wash your windscreen- and oh look, my arm is soaking wet all of a sudden, and the wing mirror control has blown a fuse. That has never happened in any of my other cars...then again I never used to be too much of a skinflint to use the air con! Speaking of which, is it really supposed to sap so much power? You can really notice it when you turn it on..

No rubber guards on the doors and sides of the car. When the light catches it, there are tiny dents in the rear side panels where people have opened their doors onto my Cougar.

Yup agree with lights (water retaining & changing the bulbs !!).. What a pain.

I dont have a problem with the passenger seat, it returns to the position set, although i wish the drivers seat actually moved as well when letting a passenger in !!

I think the only thing that really annoy's me about my Cougar is the standard windscreen wipers... they have never really been any good so im just gonna have to get some aftermarket ones for the winter... They just seem to smear the water around my screen.. v.annoying

I know what you mean Tim. I am currently in the process of booking my car into a Dent Magicain workshop to get all my little dents sorted. I kid you not, I have 19 dents all over my car from peoples doors !! Most are on the doors, which is handy as they charge per panel and not per dent) but I do have 5 or 6 on the actual car itself ! :(

I also hate the way you cant see where the car ends. Front or rear. Might have to invest in a rear parking sensor......

Gkatz I agree with you, what wipers are you getting? I use a windscreen polish which at speed

 sheds water without needing wipers, but at town speed I need decent wipers - pete

how much to take the dents out, i got a fresh one today, went for an interview and came back and there was a surprise waiting for me, a fresh door dent. It doesn't matter how far out you park, some idiot has to park next to you.

what annoys me about my cat is that when you are travelling at 30mph, and you have to accelerate for an overtake the volume on the stereo goes really loud, is it a fault or is that standard???????

Cougarbloke
09-02-2003, 04:37 PM
ah ha, that is actually a standard feature on some Cougars...saves having to constantly adjust the volume manually.

 Does it so you can still hear stereo over the noise of acceleration (:banghead: well it would do if there was any extra noise)

 I don't have a problem actually with volume - my problem is that the radio doesn't stay on a programme over more than 50 miles and it doesn't work on long wave at all. Pete

I find the bing, bing, bing, bing, bing very anoying and hitting the heated seat switch with my foot.

Your heated seat control can't be in the same position as mine - no way could I hit it with my foot.

Like Highlander, I have the bosch wipers and they are a vast improvement. The stereo volume change is part of the AVC programming which is linked to the accelerator. It can be increased/decreased/stopped through the function button under AVC

I have Bosch wipers with the spoiler on the driver's side as well - much better than the Ford ones.

P999 LTS, FM only has a short range anyway but I am pretty sure you can switch off the feature that tries to re-tune you to a different station when the signal gets weak - I don't know about LW because I never use it and I only use MW when I'm listening to Radio 5 for the footy - can't you get Radio 4 on FM these days - or is it for your trips on the Autobahn?.

Apart from the rear wiper and the electric seat when letting people in the back I get annoyed when trying to pull away quickly in the wet and the car just doesn't either due to wheel spin or the traction control - :banghead:

Couple of things.

The best windscreen wipers I have ever had are BOSCH ones from Halfords. They even have a little spoiler on the drivers side wiper. I fitted a pair the other week to my Cougar and yet again, they have amazed me at how good they are. I also 100% recommend the use of Rain-X. I have used it for many years and the ability to drive down the motorway in torrential rain......with the windscreen wipers off....is fantastic !! You also get lots of weird looks from other drivers.

With regards to the dents, I was quoted a price of £40 per panel, but I don't know if that is a standard price or not because when I rang up, a very old school mate answered the phone, so it might be a special price he has done me.

All in all it is going to cost me the best part of £100 to get my entire car done. Needles to say i am "thinking" about it.

:rolleyes

Hi Shagmonkey, I had some dents removed by Dent Devils - excellent job and they charge around £70 per panel.

the biggest thing i hate about my cougar is that when you get a head unit put in you have to use a bracket that doesn't fit in the hole where the old unit fit, so you have to cut it to fit then theres a little gap (met to be there in the bracket).
And then the trunk, i am only like 5'3 and i can't reach the hatch of the trunk when it goes up then i have to jump like an idoit to get it.
Not to mention the fact that i have to open the sun roof to get some of my tall friends in. and then the whole moving of the seat things.
And the dash always seems to be dirty. the little holes in the fabric over the drivers console never seems to get clean.

Hi
I've got all the owners manuals for my Cougar. It tells you how to adjust all those settings on your stereo. I could scan 'em and stick 'em on the forum if you want, and if I'm allowed.
My only grouch is the rear wiper not being intermittent.
If you're too big to get in my back seat, then you're walkin' !

 I suppose the acceleration is not as good as some cars (I have an ATX) - but once it gets going (above 15 mph) the acceleration is good and according to the manual the top speed is limited to 140 mph (although no-one on this site has admitted to this speed, yet). Road holding is very good, but let down by the seats which have minimal side support. The Cat is a GT in the original sense - drive miles in comfort, at whatever speed you want and get out comfortable.

Have to agree CougRRRL. Not too bad off the mark, though higher up isn't that good even using (ATX) o/d off and sports mode.

Was persuaded a couple of weeks ago by the other half to swap my Nissan 200 in for the Cougar and initially am a bit disappointed in the performance but the overall ride is marginally better. Trouble is she want's this one all the time where as the 200 was too hairy for her. Hopefully the novelty will wear off soon so she can have the old Mondeo back, but the grin on her face each time she gets home suggests it may be a while yet! Do Cougars drink Milk!

My uncle has a 200SX - left me for dead in a straight line in the dry but just wait till winter kicks in and Cougar stays solid a rock - although I have got an old MX5 if I want some fun sliding out the back end.... errm never mind you know what I mean:flushed:

I have got a electirc seat on the drivers side and not on the passenger side.

The electric seat is too slow if you are letting someone in the back which is annoying but the passenger seat does slide forward when you're letting someone in and only slides part of the way back so it doesn't crush their legs.

Mines a 2000 'X' - wonder if there was a change of design?

Probably not a fun as the 200SX when it's slippy but it is not boring - I kept taking it out in the snow last year just to feel all the electronics going to work and enjoyed pulling away from everyone else struggling to find traction - I have a manual and the missus takes it to work most days and comes home with tales of conquests over Corsa drivers and alike - she wasn't even a little bit interested in cars b4 we got the Cougar + we both love it. I would like a little more power though just to wipe the smug grin off my uncle's face - Bluefin will be a start.
