Zetec flywheels are not compatable with duratec trannies. If you have a cougar with a zetec and an mtx75 it will work... if you have a duratec and an mtx75 it will not work.

Any idea why? I've heard the bell housing is shaped different on the 4cy, is that why?

The bell housing is completely diffrent. The crank is completely differnt which means the flywheel is completly diffrent... If im not mistaken the input shaft of the transmission is also diffrent.
Its not simply a matter of swaping bellhouseings as far as I know... but yes the bolt patter is completely diffrent and even if they could fit together they wouldnt bolt together.
