View Full Version : Nitrous CRX vs. Vortech cougar

I'm guessing he had nitrous because I can't imagine him keeping up with me any other way - and I didn't hear a turbo or anything. Anyway I was coming back from AZ right after my car got tuned and was ready to race. I was cruising at 80 on I-25 in New Mexico and this CRX pulls up next to me. I thought this would be a good test guy to see how much of an improvement I have with the supercharger. To my amazement I didn't blow him away. I beat him, but only by a couple car lengths. I saw a-pillar pods and ground effects with exhaust. I don't know what else he had. I decided I kicked his a$$ and I slowed back down to 80. He got in front of me and I noticed this little spark coming from his exhaust pipe followed by a huge puff of smoke. At first I thought he screwed up his engine and I was laughing at him, but after he did it a few more times I realized he had a spark plug in his exhaust and he was blowing smoke all over my car. I was alright with it the first few times, but he kept doing it and it smelled like crap so I dropped it into 4th and flew past him. I got in front of him and I threw my dairy queen ice tea at him. He got really pissed and got in the left lane. He drove past me and his friend threw a bag of something at me. He was still in the left lane though so the bag just flew past me. I stopped messing with him after that and eventually he drove away.
It was a good time.

Its fun to test other cars and see what they have, but its incredibly stupid to throw stuff at another car going that fast. Could you imagine the feeling you would have if your tea hit the guys windshield and he freaked out, lost control and crashed. :slap: Thats messed up.

Yeah that would suck if the tea caused him to lose control and crash. I would feel really really bad. It was a good time though. If I didn't have some fun and take some chances now and again life would really suck.
I know I'm going to get a lot of replys on that one. That's alright though, nothing wrong with voicing your opinions; keep em coming guys.
Very nice picture 8BaLL. :)

wouldn't it be crazy if he was just running rich and backfiring?
go to http://www.honda-tech.com/zerosearch , search for smoke in the technical section...
here's an example:

Good run but stupid for throwing your tea out. Like Slide stated, could have been a problem with the honda back-fireing.
And totally off subject, you need to run your car at the track sometime. . if you haven't already. Curious to see what your 1/4 mile times are. And for your sig hehe, "High flow cat coming soon to hopefully help get rid of honda sound. (Currently no cats)" That should help but I doubt it'll get rid of the sound entirely. You're running a blown 3.0L V6, going to have alittle whine to it. But you will get rid of the snap crackling pop sound from the no cats hehehe.
Good luck.

Oh and btw :) don't assume he had nitrous or anything else. . .from experience, my TA is bone stock  well kinda, but I took on a blown 2001 Mustang GT and ate him alive in the 1/4 mile.
If he had his CRX tweaked just decent enough, he may not have been able to beat you cause I mean hell, you got 2 more cylinders and a blower. . however he probably should have been able to stay pretty close due to his weight ratio and what ever mods and tunes he's done to his car.

Like my friend, 1800 lb CRX with a honda B18A engine....... hehe quickness!
On a side note
I was going down the road with my friend mike and we were messing with this little rice pos in his moms car (name has escaped me...) and they threw a big glass out the window at us......we got pissed off and i was like hanging out the window cussing at them....next thing I know, the guy in the passenger seat has a gun in his hand. Needless to say we got the hell out of there then.

I knew that was coming. In that CHASED thread, there was no gun. Just a "He could have had one". This guy actually had one. Way different.
Edit -- If I we pussied out, it would have been when he threw the cup.....running from that would be pussying out.

I thought the SVT's were 3.0s. Looked it up. . . he's got a blown 2.5 :) hehe.
Still going to be hard to get rid of the honda sound lol
But that's hella good though, 250+hp out of a 2.5.

for future reference, no tea cup is needed. Your rear window washer squirter nozzle can be adjusted to shoot at the car behind you. Tailgaters are a thing of the past now. Just stick a needle in the hole, and adjust accordingly. Back up against a wall and aim, fire, re-aim. I have mine set to squirt directly on drivers side, so they can swerve to the right and get out of the way. (after they realize wtf is happening)

lol.. yeah I had thought about doing that. A friend of mine showed me on her hundai...
To be honest ... I don't even use the darn thing for cleaning off the rear window...
The blade sucks anyway... skips across the window...

oh great another story of a supercharged cougar with NO numbers....is anyone with a truly hooked up cougar ever going to give us some numbers and track times??
On a side note, I like the idea of the rear nozzle squirter...I've always wanted to attach highbeams to my rear bumper, and when I get a stupid person behind me with those bright-@$$ headlights, or tailgating me, I'll turn those suckers on!

I like the squirter idea, maybe I'll do that.
My track numbers wouldn't be very impressive here in colorado. Last time I was at the track (bandimere) IIRC heavily beefed up muscle cars did 12's. If I remember right vipers did 13's or 14's up here. (about 6,500 ft)

Never hurts to try. Just be specific when you post your slips on the site where you raced, the elevation, temp & humidity where you raced as it all plays a + or - factor to racing and dyno #'s.

You just put a regular needle in the hole? How would you "adjust" the aim?
Try moving the needle to adjust it......anyway arskiracer is right im sure he wouldnt get good numbers in colorado, i used to live in colorado and now that i moved to illinois i can tell a real difference in my car. My car doesnt bog down anymore like it did in colorado, even after driving for awhile its still like it was when i started it up.

That was the funniest thing i've heard in awhile !! Espeically the part that you were okay with it for the first few times but after that it smelled like crap so you decided to throw your dairy queen tea at him. Pure Comedy !!!

Perhaps you have seen him.. perhaps you have not. There was/is a guy (that I don't remember the name of) whos icon was a picture of his car with lights in his bumper, and said email him if you wanted a vid. Well, it was like 6 BRIGHT AS @#($*@#$ lights behind his license plate, that were hooked up to some kind of switch, when pressed would lower the license plate and turn on the lights...
Pretty sweet... wouldn't tell anyone how he did it exactly because he makes money selling it for a leaving (among other things). He would however tell you the general idea and some of what he used.. I guess it wouldn't be that hard to figure out.

LOL, kindof reminds me of the CF2k1 caravan antics we pulled, my wife needed a mountain dew, so we radioed to yellowcougar2000 with the frs radio and at 80 miles an hour handed one to her on the freeway. A couple of times when approaching his car we both over compensated and almost made a cougar sandwich.
I think back and that and wonder what the people behind us thought.
