Pretty easy actually. But I found it funny, especially when we pulled off after his challenge and defeat and claimed I had Nitrous to beat him hehe.
But I was sitting patiently at a red light when the kid pulls up next to me and his buddy in the passenger side yells at me to race. Claiming they were going to smoke the TA. The driver goes "I got NOS. . wut you gotz" I tell him I'm just a stock LS1 with a cat-back exhaust. .that's all
Light turns green and I gun it. By the time I hit 70 I already had at least 8+ cars on him and I just flashed the lights and pulled off. The kids pull up in front of me and the driver like "man you gotz to be havings some nawz man. No way a stock car can beat vtech on nawz"
I open the hood and the back and like ok look all you want. I'm stock, but you have to remember 5.7L V8 compared to a what, 1.something 4 banger even with nitrous. . not enough :)
He was like whatever and they left. Oh well :)
hmmmm but why me. Why do I always end up getting the kids in there "fast n furious" rides instead of some mustangs, other z28s, corvettes. . .etc. Give me some muscle! hehe. It's starting to get pathetic around here.

great kill man! even the boosted 4 bangers have a tought time keeping up....i would kill to have an LS1 TA
every town has at least 4-5 guys that fit your description of the Honda driver
oh and hey...if you ever want some real competition come down to Atlanta and ill introduce you to some guys. Check out the Atlanta StreetDemonz Site (http://www.atlstreetdemonz.com/)....they are an all TA and Fbody club here in downtown. I think you would like it down here, you should move :poke: ;)

yea man it's crazy hehe. Theres only one guy that I have seen that's doing his honda right. . so to speak. Hasn't touched any of the body and doesn't plan too. Has alittle civic hatchback and is part of the TN Speed club here. Cool thing though, back in April when we had our TN Speed day at the drag strip, he put down a 13.9 all motor.
Now he has a 150hp turbo charger being put in and a few other toys. I'm actually curious to see what his runs with the turbo.
But most of the other kids around here. They put the body kit, stereo systems, hugh wings, maybe I/E mods and then a 50hp shot of Nitrous and think they can take on anything the street. hehe it kills me at times

at least you get some real rice raben, lol. go a little east, over here to good old NC. we don't even get the real rice. it's a 95 eclipse rs with an exhaust system from Meineke (i was annoyed by him yesterday).........or a 91 buick lesabre with a huge aluminum wing on the back of it, tiny flame stickers, and a different color light for every light there is. i've had few good races but the ricers here are considered ricers to the ricers, if you know what i mean. ghetto ricers if you will, lol. the ricers that have even less money:rofl:.............ok, i'm stopping now, lol
good job though, as if it was hard for you:thumbsup:

you should see the T/A here in my area with the VTEC badge on the hatch just above the bumper and the vinal on the rear window that says "vtec power".
:: shakes head ::
I wonder how many people actually know what vtec stands for...
"Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"
... hey... I mean just saying "V-Tec" sounds really fast though... *cough* its become such a rice cliche. disappointing.

may sound gay but i thought it was pretty eye-catching. but someguy had has a hatchback around where i live n he runs at our drapstrip n on his hood he has a "v-tech inside" sticker kinda small but noticeable. anyway its creative because its exactly like the "intel inside" sticker like from the computers.

Here Raben goes (again) picking on poor defenseless Hondas (again)...Man you GOTTA love the T/A by now...we're going to have to start getting you some of the Honda Hs so you can keep track of your kills :-)
FYI....the NSX friggin KILLED a WS6 this week....it was sad really. They were both at the shop and the guy in the T/A got friggin red in the face when the NSX pulled up.He had been talking smack for weeks and weeks...then he got punked in the worse way.

Sad thing though. . .I bet the John sprayed him. It would have been close if it was ran NA.
I'm getting myself geared up for him :) hehe, I haven't talked any smack to him yet hehe, waiting till I know for sure I can swindle some $$ out of him at the track running NA only.
I can't compete against him with the NOS. . .11.8 in the 1/4 is hard to beat man. My best on street tires is 13.4 but in summer 90 heat and 100% humidty and tons of wheel hop. This weekend I am installing my lower control arms, should take care of that issue :). Might break 13.2 if I am lucky. They keep telling me I should be hitting upper 12s though. . .just my driving. I'm going to have to get me some more DR's or even better some slicks and give it a whirl.
I'll probably go back up to BG next weekend, the 16th. Just depends if I get my engine knock sensor problem resolved and these suspension parts installed by then.
After that. . .it's saving up for a turbo system

Hey Raben, just curious, what would a 6 speed Trans Am with your mods run (about)? There's not as big of a difference between a MTX and ATX Trans Am as a Cougar, correct?

No there's not much difference. When I had my TA dynoed bone stock, there was 2001 TA there 6speed also dynoed. He pulled 324hp and 342tq at the wheels. I pulled 316hp and 348tq at the wheels.
I don't understand why my torque was practically right there with him but the HP was only slightly less. I haven't seen really any real differences between the two trannys on the LS1's. Both are rated at 450rwhp before you have to do serious work to them to handle the power and there isn't too much % of drive train loss between the two.
I perfer the auto mainly because of traffic. . .and not only that but presision shifting at the track. Don't have to worry about missing a gear :)
The only difference with most of the stick vs auto is the gear ratio. the 99 was the same, both stick and auto had 3.23's however the 2002 model, the stick had 3.23 and the auto had 2.72's.
Either one you get if you are looking into buying. . .trust me you'll be pleased :) And right now with my mods, the stick would actually have more power than the auto because of the stall converter. The sticks ofcourse don't use them. . .and the auto it actually adds more to the drivetrain loss.
It was end of March when I had my stock dyno which was 316rwhp and 348rwtq. After the I/E mods, 3500 stall converter and 3.73 gears, the drive train mods killed my power. Not to mention I had it dynoed in 90 degree weather this time hehe so the weather played a big roll in it too. But I dynoed at 302hp and 315tq. But with the stall I'm pretty much putting that power on the wheels right off the line. Gets me in my power band pretty quick, only problem is traction :)
But I love it. If you decide to go for a TA or Z28. . . . don't change the gears to 3.73's if you decent top end!!! get 3.42 hehe. I'm wishing I didn't go that high. The 3.42's are a better all around gear for the LS1.
But as for what they run at the track that's anyone guess. My brother's 2002 Z28 ran a few weeks ago with the high humidity and heat a 13.2 on street tires!!! I have a good feeling his will hit 13.0 maybe 12.9 by fall of the year when the weather changes. I still have a few bugs to work out with mine.
But you're looking anywhere from mid 13's to upper 12s stock. With mods, low 13s or surely 12s. . depending on driver :) And you can get a 98 to 2001 LS1 for 16K to 21K. A 2002 is hard to get though for a decent price.

Just a couple notes:
First, a torque converter multiplies torque. That is why your torque numbers are similar but your HP is down from a 6-speed.
Second, ALL 6-speeds come with a 3.42 rear. It has been that way since '94. Autos come with either a 2.73 or 3.23 gear.

yea but when i dynoed back in march I didn't have the torque converter at the time. I was completely stock and my numbers were the same.
That's cool on the 6 speed. . . didn't know that :) I was under the impression the 6 speed was always 3.23 and only the vettes came as 3.42.

You still had the factory torque converter. A torque converter in general is a torque multiplier be it factory or aftermarket.

Thanks guys for the great info!
Raben- I only wish I was in the market for a Trans-am! One day...one day... ;)
