I'm new to the Cougar scene, Very Glad to be here! I love my car! I just got a '00 Cougar and I was wondering is someone could explain what differences they have made from 99-02. I also wanted to know if the '02 is a classic-collectors item because it was the last year they made it.

Thanks Everyone,
ashlee:kiss:

99 & 00 have "boobies" on the headlights, 01-02 don't. The 99-00 also have different front and rear bumper areas than the 01-02. The interiors are also different between 99-00 & 01-02. There are also some colors and trim models that are year specific.

Welcome to the boards.

early model cougars also had the return style fuel system (up to may of 99 i believe), and from that on they were returnless style.

Seats, Dash, headlights, front and rear bumpers, foglights, consoles, rear suspension, gauges, displacement(99-00 a bit larger) There are alot of others, but those are just a few.

01-02 also had some "limited edition" Option packages. (ZN, C2, XR, 35th Aniv.)

I know there was a 00 with a ZN and C2 package also. The XR and 35th were only 02 models.

01 - 02 tend to be faster. Although there are changes in the engine -_- ford does strange and wonderful things.

The 99-00 is a 2.5L engine with 255 c.i. displacement. The 01-02 is 2.49L with 252 c.i. displacement. And yeah, for some reason, the 01-02 seem to be faster stock.

Special Edition Cougars

1999: None
2000: Special Edition (they got creative with the name)
2001: C2, ZN
2002: C2, XR, 35th Anniversary

The grill also changed between '00 and '01.

Also, don't the 01-02 come stock with the svt lim (lower intake manifold)? That may attribute to those model years being faster.

According to my math, and data from the 2000 Cougar owner's manual, the 2000 V6 has 2544 cubic centimeters of displacement, which equals 155 cubic inches, not 255.

for the cubic displacement, i am going by what the techs at autozone told me.

i dont know why, but 99s just look better. anything after 99 is crap. all 00, 01,02 owners are just jelous because they couldnt get a cooler 99....

chill homies, u know im just messin. hey dont forget the cup spiller and rims. the 99's have a horrible cup holder in the console, however i think we got the nicer rims. i dont like the "flower rims" that some cougs got in the later years.
