My boss seems to think manual transmissions DO NOT have tranny fluid and the tranny fluid cannot be added to or changed. I have tried to convince him otherwise. I know a lot of you guys have degrees so please state your best arguments so I can show this to him and prove him wrong (not that I need to). So go for it..... Oh, he also seems to think it is a DRY clutch.

The work vehicle he claims runs a dry clutch and no tranny fluid is a manual transmission 1980 C-60 box truck...

Thanks

there is fluid lubricating/cooling the gears inside the transmission.
there is no fluid for the clutch.

Typical Manual trannies basically just swim in gear oil.

Our trannies happen to use ATF.

Hehehe... We have a "wet" clutch i guess youd say. More precisely our clutch is hydrolic. There are old cars(and that box truck) that have cable operated clutch... they have no fluid and are a pain to drive. Just like pgtatx said most trannys use gear oil. We use atf because it reduced the loss associated with the gears having to drive through heavy oil. The tranny in that box truck is loaded full of gear oil and it can of course be changed... he is wrong.

phew... i dont even have a degree! :)
