For the power your lookin to compare to i could recommend several amps but froma quality stand point the prices would be comparable. Now if you want something cheap with the same power but less quality they have amps like that out there too. But you specifical ly want quality with power which you wont find in a amp at that power handling ability much cheaper then 700 unless you go on E-bay and get something used or on clearance.

Check out http://www.maaudio.com they make some VERY mean amps. Pricey but not over the top.

definetly a diamond audio D5 1200.1 might cost the same but pound for pound a better amp in my opinion

POWER:1200Watts RMS x 1 @1 ohm mono those are the specs on that diamond aduio amp you recommended exercist, so anyone wanna tell me how well that woudl work on a DVC with 1.5ohm's percoil? could that amp work with that sub? i really like that amp and what i have heard about diamond audio before has been good... the little i have ever heard about them...

i am just getting my way into the audio world and am doing it right this time... i did it wiht cheap ass subs and an audiobahn amp that i just sold... but i need the trunk back so i need a single sub that car out hit those two i had before... and i need the power to push it

anyone have anythign negative to say about diamond audio? it is about 200 cheaper on ebay than the jL is so i like that alot too...

well the thing is, if you run that sub so the coils are in parallel, you will end up with a total resistance of 3/4 Ohms. If you run them in series you will get 3 Ohms. So unless that amp is stable at 3/4 Ohms you may burn it up. Of course you could run it at 3 and push the amp full tilt.

Parallel: 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2
Series: Rt = R1 + R2

BTW: You could get yourself an Earthquake Shredder and pound that sub, but it's dirty power and requires lots of juice.

That amp will be fine, just as long as you don't go around playing sine waves all day. :)

having worked at a shop who got JL amps prerelease for testing, getting the 12w7 before any other shop and being the first to use it in SQ competition, and getting and using the 1000/1 before others i can say that if you are going to run a w7 get a jl amp to go with it. if you dont want to spend 1000 on an amp get the 500/1 and a H.O. w7 box. just so you know, a W7 might not play louder than 2 other subs. i have personally run 2 W0 12, and played louder than 1 12W7 with a 500/1. not as mean and not as clean but louder. if youre serious about getting a killer sub and amp the w7 is in the top of its class.
another sub you may want to look into are the diamond audio M6 subs. in a ported box, with 500 watts they bang hard. very hard. using two M6 12"s and a diamond D5 1200.1 my cougar did a 151.2 off the dash playing a sine sweep. thats very loud. with only one sub you should have no problem doing a consistant 142-143 for daily use. best part is they come with a 3 year waranty when dealer installed, and they are more affordable than the w7.

Speaking from what I have heard personally in my car and also hearing a W7 in my car I would hands down get a Diamond Audio TDX 12, my car sounded so good when I installed it at Fest and I have finally broke it in and it sounds wonderful. Hooked u to a 1200.1 D5 I have one TDX speaker and the one 1200.1 amp and I always turn heads at a light most people think I have 2-3 12's and I only have one, and to make it even better it sounds clear. W7 are ok if you want an overpriced sub they sound good but they cost so much that you can find alot of other subs that give you the same results. My advice to you is to do your homework read some reviews, and go out and try to find some shops or places to hear these speakers and also some others. Only your ears will give you the results your looking for, but if I had the money to get a new system setup I would get the same TDX 12 and 2 800.1 D7 amp's those are the new ones where you can see all of the insides. Look super cool and give you the same performance as the 1200.1 D5.

I can also testify to Diamond Audio being a good choice. Having personally helped Exorcist5 install his system and having heard it I'd say go with Diamond Audio all the way. Exorcist5's car with just one TDX was louder than a Chevy Caprice with 3 12" Kicker Comp VR's runnin' off of a JBL 1200.1!

how you doin, i have a 12 w7 and i was curious if the 500\1 would power it. If you could recommend the amp settings, possible wiring and what not i woudl apprcieate it., i woudl like to run it as loud but safe as can be thanks man!
