no probs ron

i saw another dead cat yesterday with 'engine' problems. the mechanic said it had bent a con rod which could have been caused by the oil starvation problem. dont think it was a members car tho'. didnt bother putting a flyer on cos i dont think hell be keeping it much longer judging by the labour bill it had already accumulated

It is possible that the V6 Duratec 2500 ltr engine can suffer from camshaft failures. This is caused by the oil pump whisking the oil, the air that is introduced into the oil then compromises the lubrication of the camshafts and my cause premature wear. To test if this is a potential problem:- Start the car from cold and run for approximately 2 minutes. Turn the engine off and immediately check the oil. If the oil contains air bubbles it is advisable to have a modified oil pump fitted........................

Duratec V6 2500 engine

It is possible that the V6 Duratec 2500 ltr engine can suffer from camshaft failures. The above is exactly what Ford Technical advised the Dealer to do AFTER 2/3 weeks of investigation, Cat retained in the garage for this length of time !! There was an increase in engine noise on tick over but the extent of the noise was masked by the effectiveness of the under bonnet insulation. On lifting the bonnet the noise was LOUD.

Another symptom, which only happened when first starting in the morning and on reversing out, was a very thin stream of fine clear oil for several yards. This never was satisfactorily explained but I believe it was the oil in the refrigeration system.

When the garage located the air bubbles on the dip stick Ford immediately (immediately) told them a new engine would be sent FOC. This was August 2001. All problems ceased with the replacement engine.
