you make a homemade setup (seawulf did this)
or you can get a turbo for the zx2...it will fit

Do a search for my past posts and you'll see it is very doable.
What ZX2 turbo? From what I'm seeing it's all vaporware, or just hardware kits with no tuning. Tuning/timing is the key to power and not killing the engine. You need total control over fuel and timing to keep the engine running. You need a custom dynotuned chip or stand alone engine management.
With 100octane gas you can hit 300whp on a stock zetec block with a few bolt ons and tuned cam gears, intercooled and good turbo. With street 91-93 octane you can push 250whp to 6000/6500rpm;i.e. the stock redline.
Do your research, see what other zetec fords are doing and general turbo info and you can easily see 200whp on a turbo I4 Cougar.

A custom turbo is the way to go (like Seawulf). The Focus turbo kits would need to be modified to fit in the Cougar. There's some minor fitment issues, the Zetec engine is relatively the same, but the layout of the engine compartment is very much different. Considering all of the modifications you'd have to do with a Focus turbo kit, you'd be better off just building a custom set-up........and it'll cost much less.
I'm currently working on my custom turbo project. The set-up I'm putting together is a JGS Precision turbo manifold, Garret/Turbonetics T-3 (.48 AR & 60 Trim) with internal wastegate, 1G Mitsubishi bypass valve (BOV), 36 lbs fuel injectors, 31"X9"X3" intercooler and all the associated plumbing. As for engine management, I'm using a Greedy E-Manage....E-Manage install how-to (http://home.hawaii.rr.com/afterhours124/How-to's/E-manage/emanage.doc) I estimate that this set-up will easily produce 200 FWHP @ 7-8 psi boost.
As Seawulf said, being able to control fuel and timing is very important to keep from turning your motor into a expensive paperweight....another thing to consider is selecting the right turbo size (turbine AR & compressor trim) for the CFM flow necessary for your target HP. That's what compressor maps are for. In large part, a key to successful forced induction is thermal management (controlling heat). Whenever you compress air, it becomes hotter. A hotter aircharge reduces the density of the air and lowers the threshold of detonation (not good). A proper sized turbo and an efficient intercooler will keep the heat to a manageable level.
I'm planning on doing a detailed "How-to" on my turbo set-up similar to the E-Manage "How-to". It should contain a parts list and lots of pictures...........

I sell a turbo kit for the cougar. This kit is 3699.99 It comes with a GT28 dual ball bearing turbo MAF meter injectors and all the plumbing and also comes with an air to air intercooler. The kit puts down 185 wheel HP on an auto and 225 wheel HP on a stick car. Comes with a chip for your car. The HP numbers are wiht 87 octane and 6 lbs of boost. more can be had with more octane and some more boost.
Call Pm or e-mail.

Jagular, would you happen to have that kit available for the V6 yet? .....
Jagular I emailed you about a catalog and you said you would send one out to me about 4mo. ago
do you have one or not. let me know
I will be installing a new clutch soon so i can do some dynos with all the stock stuff on it (return it to stock)and put all my aftermarket suff on after(cams new pully, intake and 106 octane fuel, valves are in to hard to put stock ones in for this test.
I will be going to turbo dynamics to see what a custom turbo will run with a lower block rebuild, I just found a sleve for my block it is for the zx3/zx5 but will work for our cars But i dont know if all that money is worth it in a cougar,
I still want to buy a is300 oe sc400...

yes...i also e-mailed you about a catalog a while ago....still no sign of it....also pm-ed you about it
as for a cougar specific turbo....whose cougar did you test fit it to?....is this a fresh kit or a modified kit from another car? (zx2, focus)...
edit:...wanted to add this....Jagular, who have you dealt with so far who own Zetec cougars?....if they're on NECO what are/is their name(s)?
thank you

I am still working on the 'CAT'alog. I know its taking a long time but I want it to be right when it leaves my place. I have added about 5 pages to it in the last few days. ETA looks to be that it will send out in 2 weeks. I still have everyones addresses too. I have yet to sell to any ZETECers on the NECO. I have sold a 3.0L UIM that I am sending out tomorrow. I have also just sold a Pro 5.0 shifter to a guy from the board. The turbo kit is adapted from a focus. I rough fit it on a local coug. It still needs work to be a shippable kit. I can put it on a car with no problems but I wont send one untill I can put one on a coug myself. Thanks T.J.
P.S. My computer will not let me PM anyone right now. I can read your PMs but I cannot reply. Havent figured that one out yet.

thanks for the info.....there's a lot of parts from the focus/zx's that fit the cougar zetec but with modications in order for a proper fit...which is why i would be hesitant to say that a part fits without knowing what needs to be done as far as modifying it.

Matthew, I haven't really thought about putting together other kits for sale. As a custom set-up, many parts are fitted in and fabricated as the turbo is being installed. The fitting and fabrication issue is nothing major, but jigs or templates would have to be made if it were to be duplicated for a kit.
I was planning on doing a detailed how-to with a parts list.
I would say that if someone has the mechanical ability to install a turbo kit .......then they should have the ability to put together a custom turbo. There are only a few major components that are needed, and the rest is the associated parts to put it together. As for cost, my set-up is is costing me around $2,000.00 (that's only for the cost of the components).......I'm doing the install myself. I'm using all new parts but you could actually get the price down lower by getting used parts.
