View Full Version : Camshaft knock?

Got a knocking sound from the top end of the engine. I'm guessing camshaft but head technician at Ford dealer (who hasn't seen car yet) reckons it unlikely as Ford have no recorded problems of a camshaft problem with the V6.
It's only done 60,000 miles, full dealer service history, never abused etc...
Anyone got any thoughts on this before I take it to the dealer tomorrow?
Thanks in advance...

Could be a CV joint by the wheel?? Signs of this are a knocking noise and traces of oil on the wheel. I've had about 3 go in the last year alone!!

Thanks for the quick reply. Definitely engine I think. With car stationary and revving the engine you can hear it. Comes in about 2000 rpm and gets louder as the revs increase and then stops briefly as you lift off the throttle. Knocking sound returns as you apply the accelerator again.
:confused:loose exhaust fixing?

Could be a hydraulic lifter sticking. You could try flushing your engine and changing to fully synthetic oil if you don't already run on it.
I found this website on an old forum somewhere :
