Good times, things that could have been better, and what you want to see next year.

I would like to thank you all for coming out to the event. It was an awesome time.

I had a great time. Despite what everyone was saying about organization and stuff I don't think that the actual show day on Saturday is the most fun anyways, at least that's the way it's been for me the past two years. I just have a great time hanging out with everyone and going cruising.

What would I like to see:

A F***in hotel that knows how to take reservations. I was one of probably 5 groups of people that got screwed out of a room when we arrived despite the fact I booked in like January.

a place with slightly larger rooms.

The parking lot was great.

trophies and more raffles. :)

While I agree with all of the things said above, I had a lot of fun... it was great to finally put faces and real names to the screen names we use here. The parking lot really was big enough to have been able to hold the event right there, but Trashmore was fine, too. It was hilarious to watch the passing cars occupants look as a line of Cougars drove past, and everywhere you went, you saw someone that was in NECO  It's like we were slowly taking the area over :)

Hope everyone made it home safely - and I'm already looking forward to next years event!

I think it was all a blast but I think it would hav been good to have the meet at the hotel it seemed that people were in such a hurry to leave after the raffle and then after they dyno you only end up being at the show for a couple of hours but it was fun...

I was kinda curious about the registration fee, and what it was used for? I saw alot of people who didnt pay just drive in and such. So just curious as to what our money went twords...

The fact that those of us that preregisted had to pay the $30 -- then the day of the show - NO ONE ELSE PAID who was suppose to pay when they got there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Small hotel rooms
No trophies at the show on saturday
Those of us at the dyno that morning didnt get to stay long at the show - from what i knew the show was suppose to start at 1230/1pm - when i found out everyone was actually there at 9am - thats why i dynoed that morning b/c i thought the show was that afternoon
We never actually planned a LARGE caravan down to the beach - i know like 11 did fri night, but i thought we were going to as a group - i couldnt go fri b/c my headlights were getting painted

It was definitely.... interesting. We ended up in a part of town we never had anticipated, played around on Military and Independence, etc... good time.

Well I wanted to say again that this event kicked ass! I mean seirouslly, the people who planned it did a great job and I wanted to say thank you again. I thought that the hotel was nice, located close to alot of things and very clean, but thought maybe the rooms were a tad small, however I cant hold anyone responsible for that, cuz looking at websites etc how can you tell? The parking lot was really nice, and personally I kinda think that its easiest to hold the event at the hotel lot. Just makes less work and hassle for planners, atleast I think it would? The pizza was clutch, very nice touch as I think about anyone likes pizza. I think all and all the location and hotel were good, minus overbooking as well.
The event: Without sponsors and funding it ll be harder to get raffles so maybe we can try to work things out with more companies? Awards, I really like seeing people get rewarded for the time, effort, and money they put into their cars. One last thing if we ever have the event at somewhere besides a hotel parking lot is running water and flushible bathrooms:) Just cuz I hate porta Jons....
The cruise: We never were able to get a really big one, but since I was leading one with like 11 or so cars I think it was sweet. We totally ruled an area described to us from residence of it as "The Worst Ghetto in VA", but we all survived with no bullet holes and all our limbs attatched. But I would like to see the cruise happen at a scheduled time that is one thing that can be planned and set in stone. I think every year at 9:30pm we should start the cruise, make one large lap like 2yrs ago, stop at the hotel like 10ish and get more people and make another lap, then if we want go again if not call it quits.
But again I wanted to say that I led the cruise(bragging can you tell) and think that it went rather well. We taped it from 2 cars I believe?? Must see Sleds film and whoever got out of the car at the light with the cop right behind you!! Badass!
The traffic: Sucked on the way down, but hey its summer, that means Orange Barrels, get over it. I had to.. Way back, way easier, different route, and way less traffic.
However losing my wallet was not part of the plan on the trip back, since it had 180bux, my visa, and a bunch of other stuff I liked in it, so retraveling a 2hr section of Highway sux, and then re,retraveling it for a third time with no wallet to show sux worse! Plus sleeping in my car at a truck stop is scary, mainly because I knew I was going to be in my car for 24hrs. straight with those 6hrs of sleep I got that night.
Okay enough of me, the event was awesome! To each and every its different and they will like and dislike different things. But I think that everyone should rethank the peeps who planned it, and should remember YOU decide how CF goes, not the people who plan it. Anyone can show up and have a great time, anyone can show up and have a terrible time. Make it want kind of time you want to have, you decide....
THANKS AGAIN! :beer::thumbsup::beer::thumbsup:

I had a great time.

I was a little pissed that after 12 hours of driving, we pulled in to the hotel and we were told that we didn't have a room. Needless to say, I was a little upset. ;)

Other than that, no complaints. I had fun. :)

Ya mang... the hotel was assssssssssssssssss... well, not really, but the fact that some people, dispite booking a room, got booted out... and had to look for a new place to stay the DAY they show up.
they should have put us all in the same wing of the hotel - or tried to ... cause the cops were called CONSTANTLY thursday night... because we were all being loud

Yes - the show should have just been held in the parking lot to keep things simple

As for food... i would loooooove to see the bill for all that pizza... pizza is awesome, but i think that "we" could have gotten a ton more hot-dogs / hamburgers + buns AND a bbq... heh... instead for a lot less money.
but hey, i guess thats what the $30 bucks went to... pizza and a t-shirt...
but as i told everyone i talked to...
I come to these cougar meets 75% to hang out with everyone, and 25% car show.
Tropheys, no tropheys, raffles, no raffels... it doesn't matter - i just go to have fun and meet everyone i talk to on here :)

I had a lot of fun, and am glad I made the 15 hour trip to get out there. I met and hanged out with more people that I didn't know prior to CF than I had any other year. Everyone was awesome, and it was a blast partying Thursday and Friday night. I am proud to be one of the few who were up last every night. And I'm really glad a very few of us (gldgremlin, slurpee, jennaj, ggracer, and myself) hit the bar Saturday night because I hear everyone else crashed early that night.

The hotel was fine, and in a good location... I liked that it was about 20 minutes from the strip because it was not that crowded and leading a group to a restaurant for dinner was easy... not like Pigeon Forge last year.

Only a couple things I'd say I didn't like... really #1 was that Virginia has such unbelievably strict laws. Everything was practically illegal, and I felt like I was in a communist state while at the strip Sat night. Tenn was so awesome because aside from the dry city thing, traffic laws were very lax... we were cruising with neons on and everything. #2 is just a curiousity... I agree with Samantha... the whole registration thing was kinda bad... I wouldn't mind knowing what all the registration money was used for too. I'm sure the 60 pizzas cost at least $600-1000, but if even only 75 people paid $30, that's $2,250 and I just didn't see where it went if there were no trophies, and all raffles were donated... and after all the massive complaining about pre-registering, if those that just showed up didn't have to pay, then I say that's really unfair.

Regardless, I'm extremely glad I went... and will go again next year. I big thank you goes out to Jeff, and Brad, and Steve for planning the event.

well guys it was a good time no matter what. i didn't prepay and i paid when i got there so what of it. i loved virginia beach as a local for the fest. this sounds lame but it was my first time at the beach and i loved it, whoever came up with the location deserves big props for their choice. now while i picked myrtle beach on the survey i really don't care were it is at, i've been there every year and plan on being there next year also. my friends had a great time as well. they couldn't believe that all these people were there from all over with there cougars just for the love of the car, which is what i thought it was about. rather you have your car modded or not, rather your active on the boards, rather your participating in local chapters or not, cougarfest is the group, everyone gets a hug and a smile, some get spanked by women for there birthday, some win prizes, and everyone has a good time hanging out. eric said a dead town might be a good place to have the show. he may be correct, he may not be. it seems to me it doesn't really matter were it is at. but if you want a dead town with a hotel that will support all the attendees and other places to have the show, with bars and what not you are all welcome on behalf of myself and i am sure every bar owner, beer distributor, hotel chain, as well as any other business in the area to come to Ford City or Kittanning PA which is about 40 minutes north of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh also has a autocross track near the beaver area that might be good to. i am not suggesting anything because i will be there no matter what unless i have to drive to california.
in summary great fest everyone, can't wait until next year. everyone i hope you had as good a time as i did.

thats exactly what i want to know.. what was my 30 bucks for? better yet.. what was it used for? dont get me wrong.. im not knocking it. I had a GREAT time, i'm curious because 30 bucks is 30 bucks. might not be much for some.. might be alot to others..either way.. i pre-registered and i know some people didn't even pay.

The fact that those of us that preregisted had to pay the $30 -- then the day of the show - NO ONE ELSE PAID who was suppose to pay when they got there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually people did pay at the show which was good. Otherwise there would have been no pop or ice and we would've all dehydrated (OK maybe not, I have to be a little dramatic). Most of the money went toward T-Shirts and since the order was @!#$&'d up (VA Friendly Swearing) it will also go toward shipping them to everyone. I'll let Merc address the rest of the $$$, there may have been permits pulled at trashmore/hotel. And don't forget about that gourmet italian food!

Personally I had a blast and loved the event. I knew it was going to be snafu from the start so I stopped worrying and enjoyed myself. Meanwhile everyone I talked to asked if they could help in some way. It was a great show of support from everyone and definately what saved the event.

I especially want to thank Excelcier, Mcon, Zalec and RiverRojo who worked the registration table. Special thanks goes to Excelciers wife (soon to have her own screen name) who spent the ENTIRE TIME at the registration table. Also thanks to the Minnesota crew who helped me put up the first Cougarfest sign.

If I forgot anyone I'll edit this when I remember. CGBurns and FastZetec get the longest partier awards. They still had beers in their hands and were walking around in the parking lot when I woke up at 7:00am to leave.

Just wanna say we had a great time and loved meeting more people that I normally just type to.
Highlights: Driving GrandmasterKhans sweet Cougar just so he could hear how badass it sounds, getting a ride in Dan G's 3.0L Cougar (one of my goals for CF this year), driving James' 3000 mile new Tiburon without even asking. Drinking a few beers on Fri. with everyone.
Coming down early and staying longer. Beachs.

The cruise thru "VA's bigger hoods" as quoted by passing blue cutlass with wire rims. Getting yelled at by a large blackman because a unamed Saphire blue Cougar from NY (you know who you are) supposedly cut him off. And lest we forget getting tailed by one of Norfolk's finest.

Lows: that huge storm that blew thru Fri night, getting lost a few times, crappy route on the way down, (hopefully I find a better one for tomorrow when we leave), large puddle in entrance to Sat. show:banghead: no one to caravan home with:(

Thanks to everyone that helped with this years event.

i'm also glad I went, and glad I was able to make some sorta donation to help out. I feel it was very cool that Trevor gave out the rest of those calenders as well. Also cool were the t-shirts thrown up for grabs (yea, i got one!!)

A few concerns I do have are the following:

1) It's really not my place to ask but we still don't have an answer about what our registration fees paid for?

2) James showed up, and was basically shunned.....This really isn't cool. Even if you had prior disagreements you should still be an adult and at least say hello and not in a way tell him to F-off. He did alot for us as Cougar owners and still does. After hanging out with him along with alot of others in my room everyone expressed they missed him and wished he was involved with CF. James said if approached for next year (this was said the day b4 fest) he would strongly consider it. Also if he was asked to support this past fest in a timely fashion he probably would have.....

3) Scouting out the hotel...the rooms were very small and very pricey for the size and ammenities..

4) Why did we have the show at Trashmore when we basically held the same thing at the hotel the previous 2 days and it wouldn't have been any different and even more convenient?

5) The food choice, for the amount paid out we should have split it up between pizza, hamburger and hotdogs. Some of us can't eat cheese or that much greese..

I know it seems like I have alot of complaints, but I don't. They are more like points that need to be addressed. I had a great time, as I think fest is more about everything except the actually show. The raffles are the one thing keeping ppl at the show part (shown by everyone leaving after the raffles) but the actually show part by the time it starts is played out. Everyone loks at the cars all day thursday and friday. By the time saturday rolls around ppl lok for anyone new who showed up and waits for the raffles. I think we should be more concerned aout where we stay and what group acivities we have then the actually show. Personally I had the most fun drinking with everyone in my room watching Sunni beat up BigCountry.....

Dislikes...

- Hotel was OK, but we can do better. Having a large conference room or something would have been killer.
- The dyno seemed to be reading a little on the low side for everyone... call it a hunch, but when stock autos are dynoing in the low 110s and stock manuals in the low 130s.... something has to be off. I'm going to be dynoing my car at my normal shop to confirm this. You can see it plainly in the torque numbers... horsepower tends to vary a lot with mods, but torque does not... and in this case, every car was well below normal torque for its engine/tranny - even my Mustang. (Of course, this was no one's fault and having the Dyno was a GREAT idea).

Ok, I'm going to re-post because I posted when I woke up :)

LIKES

1) meeting the owners and chilling with them
2) James showing up. I don't care what people really say, I still will talk to him.
3) Getting to meet the maker of my Avatar lol
4) Seeing some familiar faces from HCKC
5) Doing the mods in the parking lot (particularily helping Trevor and DanG with Mary's struts/springs)
6) Running in the rain with Crystal
7) Seeing the roomies nekked (sorry Steve, no battery on the camera)

DISLIKES

1) The fact the hotel lost alot of registrations and the rooms were half the size I was expecting
2) The local laws played a huge factor in why I avoided V.A. Beach I like yelling obsetaties. :)
3) The leaving to Mt. Trashmore with a group early b/c not many others knew where it was (like me)
4) I ended up with a non-smoking room despite requesting a smoking room 3 months ago (or more) and verifying I had one 2 weeks ago.
5) Not having a shirt to come home with and I know I'll have to pay duty on mine when it's shipped into Canada
6) Stepping on glass from some @sshole who smashed their bottle in the parking lot thus slicing my foot open
7) Wondering what the registration went to....HCKC was the same price (might have been a bit more) but we had 2 conferance rooms, a HUGE luncheon, much larger rooms, got a shirt/CD/window sticker/and coupons, not to mention trophies etc.
9) Selling out of Cougarfest stickers....I didn't have the money at that second
10) Not getting to meet everyone as we were allways away from the cars and there was no real schedule of what was really going on where (like a billboard) alot of people didn't even hear about the cruise.

As a said BEFORE the event.. the order with the shirts got messed up.. which means.. we have to send out 75 packages.. which we are unsure of the cost.. but are expecting anywhere between 250 - 400.. we don't know.. plus.. shirts were bought in conjunction to all those who signed up.. we had nearly 180 registered.. we knew that many wouldn't show up.. but decided to go with 125.. meaning 2 shirts per person (on average.. only a few opted for more than 2)..

75 people showed up.. so.. now you have a huge overflow of shirts paid for as opposed to not as many people who paid.. that sucks up money fairly quickly.. that is where the fun money went.. the money that was to actually do cool things for you guys.. was making sure that you had something that will last more than just the day of the event..

(keep in mind.. if you ordered 3 shirts.. you'll probably get 5) .. if you just got the standard 2 shirts.. you'll probably be getting 3 or 4... due to the error and false numbers of people registering.. you will definately be receiving your gold in shirts.. Also.. in each shirt package.. will be a bottle of Mothers Showtime detailing spray.

I did miss seeing alot of the people that I met last year that couldnt make it this year :(

The dolphin cruise was cool, as well as seeing everyone that we met at HCKC plus others.

dislikes:

Having read the whole thread we obviously can see we were not the only upset people. The event seemed organized from the outside, and then when it came time for the event, there was just disorder everywhere. If you need to have a message board out of chalk on the pavement instead of a printed itinerary there is an issue. The hotel was small, but I am sure that no one could have known that previously, but it seemed as though that the hotel didn't even want us there, as if they truly understood that they were going to have 150 car club members running around. We were lucky that we arrived first so we didn't have any problems with the hotel bookings, but the fact that they were spread aparty randomly was poor planning on the hotels part, as well as others. I haven't planned a major event, but I was raised with parents that planned a 200 plus show every year at a hotel, so I understand what is involved in meeting with the hotel etc etc, so I personally think that even after realizing the shortfalls of the planning it could have been turned around at the last minute and had a schedule made at the business center in the hotel lobby. just our two cents

I LOVED COUGAR FEST 2003 (I love it every year)

WHAT I LOVED (there is no likes.. just LOVE)
1. Cougar Buddies
2. Meeting FL NECO... they are a very nice group of cougars!
3. the CougarFest Music CD
4. Also see My favorite memory thread in CougarFest Forum! :)

Dislikes:
1. I LOVED the location.. I really did.. but it was centralized on the coast. Majority of the cougars drove at least 10 hrs to get here. That is a lot of time and dedication on their part. Less time, less dedication more cougars. I hate saying that.. but it is true. Knowing the state laws would be nice. Driving w/neons is VERY cool.
2. The hotel has to be somewhat flexiable. We are a GREAT and respectful car club, but we aren't all librarians in this club, so noise and some roudyness will be coming w/the territory. Maybe we need to mention this to the hotel when we book next year. Also, overbooking is a BIG NO NO.
3. Can we have trophys? Just best car, paint, whatever else there could be. I am sure some people would be willing to help out on the sorting the ballots.
4. I did wonder about the $30 registration fee. But I guess that is solved. Extra T Shirts for me!

And James was in the Tiburon? Never would have known. Or I would have gone over to meet him.

the shirt situation is cool with me. Any time frame we know of yet?

We all should have known where Mt Trashmore was. It was posted on here ahead of time with the official website for the park. That had directions for it.

As for dislikes, Now for me I could not get that much time off of work, so I drove through the night friday to get there for the "show" on Sat that was posted to be starting between 12:30and 1:00. Apparently I was wrong on that one. Because they didn't rvrn say anything about stickers when I registered. And by the way I had to ask them if I was soppused to check in with them, no one came up to my car as I entered the show as they do in every little cruise night and show in the country. And what happened to these "goody bags"????

Along with my T-shirt I want a sticker. You want me to pay for it so be it, But I want it. By the way, where was the Dyno? There weren't directions on my printed schedule sheet, oh wait there were no printed schedules. You realize that half the people on these boards would heve been willing to print out 50 copies for FREE if someone had said the weren't gonna have them?

As for the people there at the show that I got a chance to talk to, It was a pleasure meeting you guys and talking to you.
