well my merc just hit 84,000 wonderful miles 2 days ago , and at exactly 84,110 miles the engine blew. i trew a rod and put a hole in my engine block! this just makes mopre keen on how much i wish i never bought a cougar, a former cougar owner told me," The only thig this car has going for it is its looks!" well i really do belive him. Not to mention in the effort to stop the car, oil happened to be all over the road and caused me to put the right side of the car on the shoulder which their happend to be a huge pothole and rip my front bumper off the car.
Well now i am on a search for a svt contour motor or a Jaguar S-Type 2.5 liter motor, if yall find any email me. Thanks

I might know someone that has a lower mileage 3.0 Duratech block for sale. I think it was 34kmiles. If interested get in touch with me via CougarGurl I only come by here when I'm really really bored and looking for things to try and talk her into letting me do to her car. All the regular Taurus ppl sell **** off cheap and this guy just did a rebuild or something and had leftover parts.

well I'm not exactly sure what it would cost to do a 3.0 swap to your cougars. I know from my own plans for my SHO that going from a 3.0 to a 3.2 block (+20FWHP & +20FWTQ) it's about $1000 or a little less to do it yourself. Since I dunno the first thing about your Duratec blocks and all that any number would be a shot in the dark.
I know though that you can prolly pick up a good used duratec block from a taurus (96-03) for a reasonable price. I'd guess around $400-$600 if you know where to look. I have friends in some of the taurus forums that have wrecked cars that they are parting out, and I'm sure an inespensive block could be found. I dunno what gasket sets you would need, and how the OBD-II takes to the much larger displacement. But like the saying goes there is no replacement for displacement.
If I had to guess I'd think that you could get away with doing a 3.0 block swap for under $1700 if you found a good engine, and did most of the work yourself. Engines really aren't that complicated. I'm gonna be building up my 3.2 for my SHO in the living room of my apartment in the next few weeks, then I just need to wait till I wanna do my clutch and flywheel to my car to put it in, I figure I should do it all at once rather than take the car apart multiple times.
From what I do know about your cars, is that the 3.0 swap is the way Ford should have built them in the first place. IMHO without FI or a 3.0 your cars are grossly underpowered, but they damn sure are purdy looking cars. :-)
