I have a Alpine CDA-9813 which will let me hook up and Alpine XM tuner to my radio without an FM modulator with their AiNet setup. Thing is the stand alone tuner is like $100 more than what looks to be the same tuner with an RF modulator.
Ripoff standalone tuner (http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com:7777/pls/admn/item_info1a?p_item_name=TUA-T020XM&p_category=10&p_subcategory=20&p_main=10)
Cheaper tuner with RF (http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/item_info1a?p_item_name=XMA-T200RF&p_category=150&p_subcategory=&p_main=10)

I'm thinking I could get the RF setup, save $100 and just not use the RF modulator. Is anyone familiar with this so I know that it would work for sure?

As long as the FM mod kit includes the same XM tuner then you are fine. I wouldn't go on looks though.

A few months ago I bought a similar unit for my Sony deck. But I purchased just the tuner because bestbuy had some great deals and rebates. Got it for $50 including antenna :)

Oh and one other thing, XM rocks. I haven't listened to FM since I got XM like 3 months ago.

joe -- caenus is right. don't go on looks alone. if necessary, contact alpine directly through their website.

BTW, that picutre of your car doesn't look anything like the British Indian Ocean Territory. In fact, that looks a helluva lot like the Loop 360 bridge in Austin..... Damn, I miss that place.....

Either they changed their price since you posted, or you got confused with the prices in Canadian dollars, but when I click on your links, I see that the stand alone tuner is 50$ cheaper (250$) than the RF setup (300$).

$300 is Alpine's MSRP. Crutchfield is selling the RF unit for $150 right now. The product description on the RF unit says it includes the TUA-T020XM tuner, which is the model number of the standalone tuner. The only real question is if the RF unit comes with the AiNet cable. Crutchfield's site says it does so we'll see when it gets here.

Yup that is Loop 360 bridge.
