I have a few questions, for those of you who might know this sort of thing. First of all, I want to know what the differences are between the duratec transmission, and the zetec transmission. What I know is that the zetec has a different final drive than the duratec. But does that make it any weaker? How much power can I run through the MTX-75, and stock clutch safely?? Thanks -Nate

I want to know this also, but Anyone know what the gear ratios are?

I can tell you that the Duratec and Ztec are totally different engines and the tranny's are not interchangeable.

really? I thought they were the same except for the final drive. Is the zetec tranny any weaker than the duratec tranny? How about the clutch?

Actually I honestly don't know....I just talk out my ass.
The SVT Focus tranny is a 6-speed GetRag, but from what I hear it is rather ****ty.

Im still curious, will the zetec tranny hold up to as much abuse as the duratec??

the only diff. between a ZETEC tranny and Duratec are the bellhousing and gearsets....you may be able to switch them out????

oh, but is the zetec as strong a tranny as the v6, or is it weaker? I just wanted to know, so if I make it to the 200 hp mark, I'll be okay on my stock tranny... knowwhaddimean?
Edit: I know 200 hp is a long ways from now. Maybe someday I'll get the ATI procharger for the focus...

its not the hp that will kill the tranny but the toruqe.... dont worry about breaking an mtx75 with a zetec... its damn near imposible.
id also like to point out that for what its going to cost to make that zetec make 200hp you could have one HELL of a 3.0....

Well, I've thought about getting a 3.0 before, from what I understand, swapping a 2.0 out for a 3.0 includes the expenses of needing a new subframe, engine, different length axels, plus any performance parts you would want to include in the engine, then an intake, exhaust manifold, new ECU, wiring, mounts, suspension, etc... and now I guess that I know that the transmission isnt even compatable without modification. It ends up costing WAY more than a custom turbo setup, including new rods and pistons, a high flow cylinder head, turbo, and intercooler. Plus I could get a brand new zetec block to build up in my garage for pretty cheap. Just need some help from my neighbors and dad. Anyway, thanks for the info exigent, glad to know the same stuff's inside my tranny as a v6. -Nate
BTW, I know I always talk about SC's, turbos, nitrous, and cylinder heads, some day I'll make up my mind, until then, Im just having fun weighing the options...
