Hopefully you all got this email, but if not: here it is. If I missed anything obvious just ask and I'll reply.

Cougarfest is now only a week away, so here are some last minute details for those of you getting ready for the fest!

*************** EVENT LOCATIONS ***********************
The official event days are Friday and Saturday. The event will be held at Mount Trashmore, a public park. The address is:
Mount Trashmore
310 Edwin Drive
Virginia Beach, VA 23462

The designated event hotel is:
Sleep Inn Lake Wright
6280 Northampton Boulevard
Norfolk, VA 23502

The park is open from 7:30am till dusk (9:30pm). Abacus Racing will be on-site with a mobile dyno for anyone interested in dynoing their car.

**************** EVENT DETAILS ************************
At the event, look for a section of parking lot with chalk. This will be our bulletin board for group activities and other announcements. If you don't see it at Mount Trashmore, check the hotel parking lot. We will also list times for the raffle and giveaways on the chalk board.

I also encourage you to bring an FRS radio (most common 2-way radios sold at stores). Like last year, the following channel setup will be used. Also like last year, I can't guarantee everyone will abide by this list, but I'm putting it out as a reference.
Channel 3 = Group Events (joining/creating)
Channel 4 = Help! (lost/confused/need help/want to help)
Channel 5 = Party Line (having a party, looking for a party)
Channel 6 = Off Topic (general chatter)
Please take conversations to 1,2, or 7+ if you plan to talk to a specific person for awhile.

Also make sure you have detailed maps of Virginia and any other state you'll be crossing to get to the event.

PuckPuck and MercMobile will not be attending so if you are willing to help out find me at the event and let me know (I'll be the one with SUPERCHARGER on my windshield)

soooo...... does anyone know what events are planned? We have the hotel... we have the event location.... now what exactly are we doing??? I haven't been able to figure that out and I've been reading through all of the posts in the last couple days. Just wondering. . . I'm probably a complete moron and couldn't find it, but it would be nice to have that kind of thing in one of these sticky threads.

Mt Trashmore is no more than 10 miles from the hotel. I will be staying near the hotel and will be totally willing to lead a caravan from the hotel to Mt. Trashmore. PM me if you are interested!

If you come expecting a fully planned day you'll be disappointed. There will be events, but since most are run by various members no hard schedule exists yet. Check the chalk board when you get there, most things happen spontaneously. If you hang out at the event or hotel you'll get lots of people asking you to join them in something. Also make sure you have a radio tuned to the 3 or 5.

yeah i agree with Atomic....now that i think about it.... at Bash there was a smaller group to organize... but with such a large number of people at fest it would be hard to organize group activites with such a large amount of people. it would be better to micromanage a group with the "board".

I will be doing everything at the hotel friday night, minus going out to dinner with my friendsbut other then that all my how tos and beer drinking, minus if I can get served at dinner, will be done at the hotel. I also will need a CAR WASH!! Cant believe no ones posted about this, location of closest car wash please??

tnkgurl
07-15-2003, 11:20 AM
CAR WASH:

What kind of car wash are you looking for? It doesn't matter much, because there is one of each kind pretty close to one another.

From Lake Wright Quality Inn Hotel:
Go out of the hotel and make a left onto Northampton Blvd.
Follow Northampton until you see the sign for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel.
Get into the furthermost right hand lane (do not take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel) going towards Shore Drive.
A do it yourself car wash will be right after the first light on Shore Drive. It's got a red roof, but I can't remember the name of it.
A car wash where they do it for you will be further down, just before you see what looks like a bunch of trees. This is a completely white building next to a restaurant called Foon's (Chinese). After you have worked up a sweat, I highly recommend Taste Unlimited which is this little store just down the road. Not even a quarter of a mile. FABULOUS sandwiches. AND if you keep going straight down Shore Drive, you will run smack dab into the ocean. Since this is Cougarfest, I do not recommend driving into the ocean, especially if you have just washed it! :goofy:

Hope this helps.

OK, no disrespect to the planners, but this has to be the most disorganized gathering I have heard of. Come on ... people need direction here.

1) Nothing is planned for Friday
2) No schedule is posted
3) Hodge-Podge planning leads to confusion.
4) Doing mods in a hotel parking lot ... come on! It's not appropriate since not everyone attending is staying there and it's a liability issue for the Hotel ... expect to get a lot of flack from the hotel staff.

I have a feeling that I am not alone on this!

yeah, SOME kinda schedual would have been nice...

i know at HCKC in indy, there was one - it was about 2 hours behind on every "event" but it was decent.
and most importantly, the show was in the parking lot of the hotel... none of this driving 10 miles to it.

oh well... as long as i'm in a caravan so i don't get lost... it'll be all good :)

That's all there is..

Because of having 3 shows for the same type of car, Cougarfest was unable to get any raffles because companies had already given products out to other events.

Last year, Friday was a do what you want day, that has not changed.. do what you want.

Saturday is the main show, where you have a dyno (which will be going all day long), and you can meet with people and see the cars and such.

As you will soon find out when you get to Cougarfest, the company printing the tshirts, decided that the guy in charge of our order was going to leave and go to another office.. unfortunately he didn't tell anyone about the order.. so.. After waiting for them to arrive (planned on Mid June) they never did.. so I called and took 2 weeks to get the crap sorted out.. so then they did some more moving around, needless to say, they will be made, but not in time for the event.. which means, you'll have shirts, but I'll be mailing them to people, based on a form you'll have to fill out at the event.

The shirts (and the irresponsibility of the person who was in charge of our account) have caused many problems over the past month.

Saturday's plan of events are this:

Go to Mt. Trashmore Saturday.. enjoy the cars, the people, the dyno, buy some stuff, watch some mods, etc.. there is nothing more we can do.

3 events have totally saturated the availability of sponsored items. A Raffle that has sold 86 tickets in nearly 2 weeks. A company who doesn't complete job orders. A head organizer who didn't ask for the job, yet took over the job when the original head organizer decided to quit.

As I have told Brad and Brad agreed.. this will probably be the last cougarfest, especially with other events going on. He, like a few others I know, are going for Cars, People and Beach. Some are going for Sex and beer.. I apologize right now if Cougarfest 2003 sucks. This is the first time we've had to do everything ourselves, and some mistakes were made, that being said, mistakes were made on both sides (Participation as well as leadership)..

I have noticed many people willing to donate spare parts, products, etc that they have won, bought or otherwise just have no use for.. I appreciate those people and it is much appreciated, it seems regardless of sponsor participation, someone will be winning something this weekend.

I agree with Steve. I'm going to hang out with everyone and have a blast. If you plan on showing up and complaining about the event then stay home and wait for your $30 T-Shirt. You can sell it on E-Bay in a few years and get your $$ back since this will be the last one. Those that demand a strict schedule will be disappointed and probably doused with the nearest beverage I can find (or vomited on depending on how far along I am).

For those of you just wanting to have fun and hang out with Cougar buddies, sorry you had to read this. I'm really excited about the event, just tired of worrying about every little thing so I've taken the "best shot" approach. Saturday we'll have the goodie bag hand out, announcements, and give-aways from those that were generous enough to have donated. Let's have one last hurrah and enjoy ourselves regardless of how well or poorly planed it turns out. Jeff and I will do our best to make everyone happy but we can't please everyone.

With that, I'll get off my soapbox and see everyone at the fest!

I will say I am disappointed to see all this talk about this being the last Cougarfest before it even happens.to be honest, after Pierre dropped out, Brad and I went back and forth for a week or two determining if this year was even to happen.. I think I speak for everyone when I say it will suck not having Cougarfest to look forward to every year, but unlike Honda's .. we are a select few who mod a very limited car. 3 Shows for 1 car, all seeking sponsorship has totally saturated the Cougar Event scene.. Honda's could claim 500 - 1000 in attendance.. we can not..

There are several car washes in the area !!!

2-4 Automated and 3 manual depends on what ya want ..

If you come down Independence Blvd when you get off the interstate and pass Mt. Trashmore, go straight (avoiding the right hand bend) you will be on holland road there are 3 car washes there, 2 auto and 1 manual.

If you need direction email me and I can give you detailed location and directions.

Just to let you now Car wars is going on that weekend to big Stereo comp. and sale, more info if needed. I posted on the anything new forum for CougarFest but no one seems to read that 1 anymore.

BTW I live here in VA. Beach so I can try and help as much as possible. I have to work friday night and saturday so I can't be there, but I will be available thursday evening and all day Friday if need for directions, things to do and not do. Just call me @ (757)761-2888.

Another point good Choice on the hotel , yes its about 10-15mins away from trashmore but its a very large facility with plenty of parking.

1 more and then im done, kinda last minute but if anyone could make some kind of card to give to the participants of the event, that need to drive around, this may help you if you get pulled over during the weekend, I talked to Police officer friend of mine and he said most of them would be more lenient if you had a card saying you were part of a special event for the weekend than they would a Local boy like me (but he** I get stopped 2 times a month), Just a little FYI !!!

Wow, did I just really read all that, after my post, yes I did. I want to say that I am going to enjoy this event no matter what. I dont see doing mods in the hotel parking lot being that bad, because we sure did it last year. Remember the mod on friday, a whole new radiator? I couldnt believe it either, but it happened, then the SVT TB, and OMP Rotors all on saturday, I dont see why this would be a problem friday night? Not to start anything cuz I can see your side too, just saying we did it last yr and I was hoping to do it again. Cuz no matter where we do it, even at a private house its a liability....
Anyhows, it ll all be good, no ones going to get hurt or anything, atleast not during my how to! lol But friday I will get getting in around 2-4 drinking a few beers while mingling, then doing the neon how to. And probably doing an air fuel gauge hook up in the middle of that. I think I have 5 cars that need the neon how to done, and I would like to get this done in an orderly fashion, which with only my drill might not happen, but I ll see what I can do. This install will probably be cut off for dinner around 6ish at the latest, for about 1.5 hrs, then around 730 I will start back up hoping to finish no later then 9. Shouldnt be a problem cuz I can now install my neons in like 1hr but thats my car and I m used to it..... Not 5 other cars lol. Then before partying friday night, going to a car wash and washing my car, then covering it.
Saturday I am planning on going to the event, after prepping my car again, and then reprepping at the event. I will be willing to do minor how to's that I said I can do, as saturday is my day to relax and enjoy. This is my vacation this month and I wish to enjoy the Dyno runs, the cars, and the friends I know that will be there. I am looking forward to a caravan right before Dusk to somewhere to eat, shoot I ll help organize this if I need to, I just want a large caravan to travel to dinner, then off to the hotel before a true caravan hopefully with all the cars of the meet, or alot of them. Cruising should start around 9 in my eyes, because its still light but just getting dark, I hope we can have as good of a crusie as last yr. as it was AMAZING. 3 lanes wide like 10 cars deep. I know we can do this again, and we will do this again.
If anyone has any ?s please PM me as I would like to help make everything run smoother that I said I can help with, and even if you just need some help please PM me.
To everyone that planned this, dont worry guys, its going to kick ass again, I promise. We are a great group of people, and we all appreciate you planning this. Dont listen to any grief or complaining because without you none of this would ever have happened!

there are plenty of us locals here to help anyways.

if anyone gets lost or needs help, i live literally less than 5 miles from the Sleep Inn hotel and know the area real well.

my mobile number is 757.270.2275 if anyone is lost or anything to that extent.

as for the event, i hope everything goes well, since it's on our turf this time. i can honestly say tho, it's not as hyped up as i had thought a months ago but it should be fun nonetheless.

I knew this thread was here but I am sorely disappointed in every single person in this board save the people that actually helped out and tried to get this thing off the ground.

Cougarfest is a headache, but it is put on for you people, because you enjoy it. No one volunteered the 5k or so that we'd need to make it spectacular, and none of the organizer's had 5 g's lying around so we had to 'raise' money and inflict a registration fee. You complain that there's nothing to and no schedule, well don't blame the organizer's. It everyone's fault, especially the participants. You make do with what you have to work with and this year's cougarfest will reflect what we had to work with. You want to complain, then complain to yourself first and then to everyone.

For everyone who did their part and held up their end of the bargain, this is not directed at you, and if you want to continue reading, then please do so but remember it is not directed at you.

Some of you will say, "Hey I paid my $30 last week! I contributed!" well hon, its too little too late. As with ALL events deposits are required, and with a normal life going on outside of NECO, that money didn't just appear. You want music, food, stuff to do. Well all of that would've cost at least a 1g up front, and since none of the organizer's had 5 g's lying around do you think they had 1?

As for future cougarfests, I pray that the person, whomever they are has a very long fuse, and a lot of patience. You people are not easy to please, you want want and want so more, but don't actually want to step up to the plate to help. You all will probably have fun this weekend, but you will lament the fact that last year's fest was better, well folks, if you think you can do better then go for it.

If those of you who decided to read the entire thing and did your part in a timely fashion, then I thank you again. More than likely it was your contributions that made our headaches go away earlier this year, when we were worried about getting anything accomplished for fest.

I'm sorry if the 'aura' of fest has been diminished, but thank god the goodies are getting out of my living room :) I hope you all have a good weekend, and have a safe trip.

I have offered my help a few times and am still offering it up to the last minute. I have yet to get an answer from some of the PM's. I don't remember anyone asking for people to front any money. Maybe they did and I did not see it. I could have helped out on this as long as I was reinbursed. I'm not trying to start anything here just wanted to point out the fact that their were/are people willing to help out both financially and with there time.

i remembered when we first found out that it was gonna be here, some of us offered help as well but never were approached. i still want to do what i can to help of course if at all possible but you know how things go.

hell, we coulda had a tour of the fnord plant in norfolk and see f150s be built. i knows it's not seeing a cougar roll off the line but still a manufacturing plant.

<note> i am just ranting as many others have as well. i just feel bad that this is not looking like it'll be a cf2k2 but i still hope to make the best of it, seeing cougars, having fun, maybe some beach action. there's always hotel parties and clubs to go to. hopefully the scattered afternoon showers won't make everything a wash-out.

BeachCougar and jojolmnop are now the official "Cougarfest *****es" so treat them accordingly. :)
Thanks to their last minute help, we should now have the "essentials" for a good event.

Friday = Meet and Greet: hang out at the hotel, lots of how-to's

Saturday = Mount Trashmore: dyno, possible vendors selling stuff, and around 12:30-1:00 we'll start registration and possibly have some food grilling. Anyone who considers themselves a good griller (http://atomicinternet.homeip.net/cf2k1/CF_2002-ATOMIC/P0000048.jpg) is welcome to take charge of it.

So for those of you looking for a schedule, there it is. Saturday from 12:30 to around 3:00pm is the official part of the event. I'll hopefully have a bullhorn and yap at everyone, hand out goodie bags, and either hand out t-shirts or have you sign up for yours. Anyone who manages to get intoxicated that early will also have the opportunity to yap on the bullhorn until we are either kicked out or said intoxicant starts removing clothing.

NOTE: I have no personal control over Virginia Beach police, so if you do something stupid I'll disavow all knowledge of your existance.

first off, props to the fest coordinators. if people are looking for stuff to do, they should consult AAA or the VA Beach CC or a beach guide.

that said, it's reasonable to expect that people will want to know what, when, and where are the official events, if any. i guess it's too late now to have a stickied thread containing the schedule? you could get the how-to Friday schedule from Loyalty or MadCat, the show/lunch/judging schedule for Saturday, and say SUnday is on your own...
