Aug 2002 - Full 3.0 gets swaped in
Sep 2002 - Timing chain snaps motor go boom
Feb 2003 - Finally get around to pulling blown motor out
Mar 2003 - Put fully rebuilt motor and HMS Trans back in
For some reason the car wouldn't start, some kind of electrical problem, I went through every wire, everything I could think of, took anyone's and everyone's advice to no avail. I finally though to give in, bend over and let dealership rape me for new harness (i did not want a used one for my own reasons). Unfortunately I couldn't just spew out a few more hundred bucks for the car, considering I just sunk a bunch of money into it. My wife would have my head (you guys all know the story, the "you love your car more than me" one).
Fast Forward to JulY 2nd, 2003. An electrical engineer friend of mine comes by with his oscilloscope. We were going to test the Crank Position sensor just to make sure that wasn't it. Before testing with the scope, he first wants to check voltage with a multimeter to get the right range on the scope. Puts the probes on the multimeter, he instructs me to turn the key, and what do you know... my car starts up. Unfortunately, it ran kinda rough.
Turns out I had a blown o-ring on an injector and even then it just didnt' seem right. Switched over to 19lbs injectors and Maf (had 24lbs in before). Started her up, a little bit of coughing and sneezing then a puuuuurrrrrfect idle :)
I also have a fried optima yellow top (caused by a faulty charger), for some reason my altenator is also not generating, but thanks to my dad who is doing the roof for a local starter/alternator/battery shop, I will be getting all thoses items fixed for free.
By this weekend, I'll have the plates and bumper back on her, as well as those minor electrical items worked out and will finally be able to drive my car around the city.
It is truly a good day for me BECAUSE MY 3.0 FINALLY WORKS!!!
