Hello everyone!

I was wondering if I could get a little bit of help from some of the NYC people in here. Myself and a few of my friends are coming down for 3 days on Aug 2, 3, 4. Having never been to NYC, I need some advice on places to go. (Bars, clubs, etc.)

NYC is such a huge place, I know, but if anyone could offer me any advice, that would be great.

Well...you've got to go to the top of the Empire State. MAybe check out some of the other taller buildings, although we're down by 2 :(

Hit up central park

Maybe a show at radio city

Statue of liberty

Museum of natural history

As far as restaurants and bars...coyote ugly on 1st ave between 9th and 10th, otherwise, you can stop anywhere and find a great restaurant or bar in NYC. Check out the village you'll probably have a good time there.

Limelight, Tunnel, Exit.....off the top of my drunken head thats all for now, but I'll list alot more soon (and give you addresses).

dude.. people still go to these? i was 16 when these were big. (thats 10 years ago, lol) custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

depends on the type of place you want to go to. and the crowd type. I rarely get into the city anymore. my gf's 21yr sis talks about bowery bar downtown. but def make time for the empire state building. also.. fridays in the morning.. the network news people (nbc) have concerts.

Sweet, thanks for the info. I've heard from a few people now that EXIT is a great place. I'm big into house music, so any club that plays that is gonna be on my A-list. Of course, somewhere where the pretty ladies are doesn't hurt either!

What's network news people?

WTF....thanks, any addresses, or other places would be good. I'm sure we'll be checking out the Empire State Building....good advice.

Thanks again.

I'm so excited! Wohoo!

Bowery Bar, blech...sorry :) There are a ton of bars with good crowds on 2nd Avenue up in the 90's I believe, like Sutton Place and Turtle Bay. Umm, Metro 53 is great..although I can't remember where that is. And I haven't gone dancing all-night in a while, but Tunnel and Factory are still good - but be careful! There are also great places on Long Island!

I just thought of something else too...even when my city-savvy friends and I go out, we still rely on either the Zagat Survey (a great pocket guide to restaurants and clubs) and CitySearch.com (http://www.citysearch.com), where you just type in New York City and then you can choose what category of places you want listed and most of them are rated, too. Both are pretty helpful. Enjoy!

Edit: And both give you addresses and telephone numbers, too!

a) What do you mean by, "be careful"?

b) How do you get to the Island?

Be careful at clubs like Sound Factory and Tunnel because the drugs still run rampant, the unisex bathrooms usually have kinky stuff going on in them and beware of the drag queens!

And to get to the Island, travel East...the 59th Street Bridge, the Triborough Bridge or the Tunnels :) But the Long Island Railroad is always your best bet!

LOL. Seth means that you can't breathe hard because you may inhale drugs :) You can't go to the bathroom because of the kinky stuff that goes on :) And you can't hit on anyone because she may be a drag queen :)

So, when is your trip, anyway?

Ya, nothing like meeting a female, and finding a tree trunk in "her" pants.

We are coming Aug 1, 2, 3, 4.

It's a long weekend here in Ontario, so it's a perfect time to come. One of our friends just moved down so he's invited us down for that weekend. It should be fairly decent, my b-day is on the friday, so needless to say, i should be a fair mess.

We are staying in Montreal on Friday night, and coming to NYC early sat morning.

"No sleep till.....Brooklyn!"

Has anyone ever been to "Centro-Fly"??? If so, how is that place? I keep hearing it's name from time to time.

Also, where is "Hooters"???

Blech, again :) I didn't have a fantastic time the last time I was there. The line was way too long, we paid at least $30 to get in and the music was even too strange for me...and I love house music! I remember there is a downstairs where they play hip-hop, which was slightly better. I just remember this guy coming up to me and saying, "You see my friend over there? He wants to talk to you. He plays for the San Jose Sharks." So I said, "Why can't he come over and tell me that himself?" And I walked away :) Stupid people.

Fantastic! Another House music lover! DJ Dan is spinning at Centro-Fly on Friday. I'd give my left, well, you know, to be there, but we won't be arriving until Saturday.

Since you know my type of music, name me some bars you would go to....

Thanks!

Where's my boyfriend? Tols, help me out on this one (he knows better than I do)!

They don't really play house music in bars, so much as clubs. In bars, you'll find rock n' roll and classic stuff and in lounges you'll find some dance music - but they won't let you dance! If you want some good techno/house, stick to the larger clubs - Exit, Tunnel, Factory, Cheetah, Webster Hall or China Club. Have fun!

Webster Hall....that was one of the places I stumbled across on the I-Net.

Is it pretty good? It looks like a hell of a place!

L

edit: Also, I just noticed that for Sat. night, this place is 19+??? That would indicate to me that it's a no alcohol venue?? Is that what 19+ means??

PonyGirl
07-31-2003, 05:02 PM
Yes, Webster Hall is huge! They have 5 big rooms, IIRC - each with a different type of music - techno, 80's, hip-hop, etc. I believe 19 and over means that they'll be serving alcohol - and they'll be handing out bracelets at the door.

Your b/f has been working too much!!! But anyway soundfactory is a good choic this weekend. Sa the 2nd. it usually gets good afterhours around 4 or 5 am and goes all sunday. jonathan peters will be spinning his classics night cd release party. So if I wasnt going away I would hit china club then go to soundfactory for afterhours it will be off the hook!! Other choices would be webster hall on fri as ponygirl already aid it is a huge club with a diverse crowd. Anyway enjoy your weekend. I will be heading to virgina beach with ponygirl on sun morn:wave:

Hey all...

Just wanted to say that NYC is absolutely incredible! What a time! It's amazing to see some of the things that you only hear or read about! Times square blew my mind! Ground Zero was unreal....

The empire state buliding, everything....loved every second of it!

We ended up checking out Webster Hall on saaturday night! It was a great time! Huge place! Sunday we more or less chilled out, and went to a pub...met lots of people, and pounded 12 beers on the walk home! (26 Blocks!)

anyways, thanks again everyone.....NYC now has a regular customer!

Lance
