This is if your car has a pinstripe or any kind of design that you don't like and you don't want to repaint . The stripe/design has to be on top of your clear and not be cleared over (which most aren't). This sounds a little wild but it works I swear. Spray OVEN CLEANER on the stripe/design and let sit for about 5-10 minutes (longer if stipe persists). Have soaking wet rags and a bucket of water or two close by. Be careful to not get any overspray on anything that isn't metal. If you do, this is what the soaking wet rags are for, wash the accidently sprayed area immediately. After you let it sit on your paint just take a wet rag and wipe the stripe/design right off your car. I was amazed how easily it wiped right off the car. When you're done you will have no wax left where you sprayed, the annoying stripe will be gone, and I would recommend washing your car. USE AT OWN RISK, gotta have the disclaimer.

I had tried everything, including an eraser wheel, to no avail. I never tried adhesive remover nor did I ever even think of it. I'm not talking about vinyl pinstripes, I'm talking about painted pinstripes.

:ugh: So if they are painted stripes...wouldn't that take off all the paint...including clear coat?? You must have a steady hand to get oven cleaner only on the pin stripes.

Ok, first of all, do not use oven cleaner, regardless of what else did not work. That stuff eats everything away, you won't have any paint left at all. I don't know much about pinstripes, but usually they aren't painted on, they look like they are but they're not. I don't know about the Cougar, but my neighbor owns a body shop and I've seen him put pinstripes on. They are special pinstripes that are put on with a heat gun, and they basically melt into the paint. I'd say try a heat gun to strip them off, but that too will probably strip the paint off around them as well.

I had similar concerns before I tried it. I started on my hatch lid to see how it worked at first. If it didn't I was going to get it repainted and the Mercury symbol filled in anyway. But it did. Apparently the oven cleaner can't penetrate the clear coat.

Give it a week or 2 under the sun...and you'll start to see it.

Good Luck

I did it a couple of weeks ago and we've been in the 90's so I don't think anything is going to happen. It's not like my car is white, a color that wouldn't show damaging effects very well, my car is melina blue. The only thing you can see is where the painted stipes were since the paint is perfect under the stipes. That will disappear with a nice 3 step wax/buffing.

i took my painted pin stripes off in january with fingernail polish remover and everything came out perfect. didn't affect clear coat or nothing, and came off rather easily as well. you can't even tell where they were anymore, so i'm happy.
