1. Will the 2003- 3L. Duratec fit our cars? ((99 cat)) Esp. from an Escape? What kind of Mods would have to be done, and what else would i need to purchase OTHER then the electric water pump... I mean, if i bought the engine brand new, if i walked in and said "Give me a 03, 3l duratec" would that come with everything else i need to drop it in, Straight swap?

2. when i get the new engine, do i need to replace the computer? If so, do i need the computer from the 2.5 or the 3? and if from the 3, then do i have to rewire anything?

3. Will any performance upgrades made for the 2.5 fit the 3? such as headers, intakes, exhausts?

Thank you for your patience.

escape engine complete = not the best idea. i think it's a little different than the taurus, altho this may not matter after you swap the necessary 2.5 parts. however just swapping the block is the same

actually I've heard that the 3.0L escape engine uses the same timing cover as the 2.5L, which is about 3" shorter than the 3.0L timing cover found in the taurus. therefore, an engine from an escape should be an easier swap, well, at least you can keep more of your original 2.5L engine together in case you wanted to sell it afterwards.

mcon:

The '01 Escape motor I got had the wrong-type timing cover- With the tensioner on the right and this weird bump on the left. Ours has no bump, and the tensioner is on the left. Fitment wise, they are interchangable.

Red2k:

AWD is optional on the Escape- Standard is just FWD. It's a variation on the CD4E tranny that the Cougars/Contiques have, and they beefed it up a bit and slapped on a transfer case to make it AWD. Therefore, the bolt pattern is a perfect match to the CD4E in our cars as well as the MTX-75.

puck mentioned the timing system on the escape sticks out farther than ours, by a good 3 inches. thats why the kenne belle sc wouldnt work. and dont get me started on the escape awd, i cant figure out which would be easier for awd conversion on our cars from escape or jag x type...but i wont go into it until i find something worth doing lol
