View Full Version : Fun with Engines!
Alright, I just got back from Canada a few days ago and decided to play with the engine a bit. First off, I changed out my fuel filter without a hitch, so I decided to take off the UIM, clean it out and do the spark plugs and wires while I was at it. I had everything off of the UIM and was down to the Vaccum hoses on top of it, and couldn't figure out how to get them off of there. I decided to give a little pull, and presto.......Broken hose line. I ended up superglueing it back together and put everything back on and haven't touched it since. Anyone have any suggestions on those hoses?
heh...if ya read in the 2.5 liter performance section you'll notice two posts by me...one for my broken vaccumm hose and another for broken off spark plugs...i did the same as you did and had even worse luck...i have temporarily used a liquid cement type stuff on it and it worked great...was even dark and cuz its sandable etc...its smooth and doesnt look out of place at all on the hose...i got mine at auto zone for a few bucks...another thing i'd recommend is goin to lowe's or someplace like that and getting a 3/8 inch connecter thing from the plumbing section...i had to sand down each side so it wasnt soo long and would go in each end and then put the cement around it and sealed it off...the conncector thing is like a two sided barb thingy real similar the the plastic peice that was connecting the hose to the elbow into the manifold

Glueing it should be fine for a temp fix, but you should probably replac that vacuum line when you get a chance. IIRC they are relatively inexpensive (I want to say less than $20).
For future reference. When you remove the lines from the UIM, there is a little black plasic ring where the line and the UIM meet. Use a flat head screwdriver to press that ring against the UIM. While holding that ring down pull straight out on the vacuum line. It should pull right out. If not, push it back in and try pulling it out again. You should be able to get it after a couple of tries. If not, then I'm not sure what to do.

My suggestion: Step 1: cut off bad part of hose
Step 2: place funnel at one end of hose
Step 3: put mouth at other end of hose
Step 4: raise funnel and hose higher than head
Step 5: poor as much beer as you can down the funnel
Step 6: chug
Step 7: pass out. :puke:
Other than that...I have no clue on the hoses...sorry . Tom's the man though on the car engines
