Mine is blue and I want to paint it black, but I don't know how to go about it. I think the hardest part will be painting around the buttons, Unless I can get it apart....... Can anyone help me? :)
Christina
Edit....Its from a 2001 Cougar

I you can do some plastic melting it is pretty easy. After you get the radio out of the dash and take off the face plates there will be some thin metal that has holes in it. This metal holds the buttons in by a piece of plastic that is melted through the holes. I took a soddering iron melted the holes (just enough) and them popped all the buttons off. As for the anti theft buttons, there are two screws on the back...take them out and there will be a could more places you have unsodder. I them painted the two pieces. I put it back together by using a soddering iron and some tie wraps to remake the plastic welds. It works perfectly. To tell you the truth I had a harder time getting my radio out the first time with coat hangers, than getting my radio apart. Here's some pics of my radio/tape player. (http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=362822&page=3) I pretty sure it would be the same on a radio with a cd changer (but I have had a 10 disc in my trunk since I bought it).
Any other questions let me know,
Brian

Seedogg......hmmmm that doesnt sound the same as mine, its from a 2001 Cougar. I took it apart but I can't get the electronics plate off the back of the blue plastic face plate. I removed all of the little brass screws but its still attached either because of the volume knob or the display screen :S
Thanks everyone!!! :)

I can't really remember how I did it, but I remember I had a very small hang up on the screen too. I think it was that I missed a screw or I had to slide it out a certain way, but I can't say for sure because I can't remember.
Sorry,
Brian

Anyone else have any ideas on how to separate the plastic piece from the buttons on a 2001 6 disk In-dash CD Player?
What type of paint did you all use?
Thanks so much :D

It's the ring around the volume knob. This part illuminates around the knob when the parking lights are on.

Yeah that must be it :)
Do you know how to separate them without breaking the knob or the ring?
Thanks

There is no way to get it off with out breaking the ring. The only thing that didn't work when I put mine back together was that the volume button couldn't be pushed in to turn the head unit on and off. Everything else worked like it should. If I wanted to turn it off, I just turned the volume all the way down.
