I just received my SVT engine today and I was taking off the manifold to replace the injectors and I started thinking about the noise my car started to make just before it died. Now that I think about it, I think the sound was coming from the blower. It was a very loud humm that got louder with the rpm's. It was kind of like the normal sound the vortech makes, but much louder. The blower is oil cooled, so do you guys think when my car overheated it damaged something inside the supercharger? I found oil inside the tube that goes from the blower to the intake manifold. I'm hoping my supercharger is alright and somehow the oil came from the intake manifold and not the blower.
Think vortech would fix that under warranty? Can this be repaired or do I have to just buy a new blower?
oh crap... This keeps getting worse and worse

Bad news, oil between the SC and TB usually means a seal is out on the SC or a bad PCV valve. While the engine is down I would have it serviced by vortech because they will warrant it if its been less then a year since you have had it. How did the jackshaft look when you took it off, specifically the splines from the shaft onto the drive splines of the SC?

Check your oil level. This is how bearings can get spun.

I was losing oil through out my trip, but I always kept it full. I just checked the splines on the sc and the jackshaft and both look fine. I don't see any metal shavings or anything either.
By the way, does anyone know what kind of tape stuff is used to seal the oil taps for the supercharger? It looks like plumbers tape, but I imagine plumbers tape would melt if I tried to use that.
I've been looking at the installation instructions for the vortech kit and it doesn't look that hard to do. I bet I could install the whole kit myself now that I'm not so afraid of touching my engine -- I think the hardest thing for me would be the terminology in the installation guide.

We used RTV sealeant same as what goes into the block during a build up. Use plenty and it will seal. Definitly send it to vortech for a rebuild, if you were using that much oil.

ok, I sent in the blower and driveshaft overnight ($377 shipping!! -- overnight to CA and back) Fordchip canceled the dynotune in Odessa, so I could have saved a lot of money if I new that information yesterday. Anyway Vortech received both the blower and driveshaft today and already took them apart. They told me I need a new supercharger and the driveshaft needs to be rebuilt. They also said they would cover it under warranty thank god.

The shaft looked fine and they still decided to rebuild? Could you ask them what's wrong with it, I'm wondering if they changed the design and will replace yours 'under warranty' but actually swap for a better replacement and not let current SC owners know about it. I'm still under warranty till december so if they send back something that looks different then what you sent them can you let me know? Thanks
PS WOW $377 in shipping! How is the rest of the build going?

The splines between the blower and shaft looked fine; maybe there was something wrong with the pully side. I never took that side apart. I'll let you know if it looks different when I get it back.
As for the rest of the build; I'm still waiting for a stage 3 SPEC clutch kit that I ordered. I don't really have much to do until I get that in. It was supposed to come in wed but I guess the manufacturer ran out and had to make new ones, so their waiting on the clutch material -- should have been there monday so hopefully I will get the clutch early next week.
The reason the shipping was so much was because I had two seperate packages to send. I boxed up the supercharger the first day. after calling vortech the next morning they told me to go ahead and send in the drive shaft so I boxed that up seperately. That's a total of 4 overnights (2 boxes to CA and two prepaid overnight return shipping)
The new engine I got used has salt and rust all over it. I've pretty much replaced all the accessories and tubes from my car, now I'm just waiting for the clutch and hopefully I can get it swapped in one day.
one more thing - the upper intake manifold off the SVT motor doesn't have the red SVT sticker on it anymore; myst have fallen off or something. It has old glue where the tag used to be. Anyone know where I can pick up one of those tags?
