Hey guys, I have a really dumb question. I used the search and I couldn't find anything..I don't know, maybe the heat is getting to me :). I am trying to install my new headunit but I can't get the damn mounting bracket to stay (the metal sleeve that goes supports the headunit)? Do I have to remove the dash and then put in the mounting bracket? The instructions said to use a screw driver to push out the mounting tabs but everytime I did this it wouldn't stay. I am assuming I have to remove the dash, put in the mounting bracket, and then put the dash back on? Is this right?

I put the sleeve in but when I go to push out the tabs it keeps slipping. The headunit is a Pannasonic 802u. Maybe it is just a crappy sleeve?

What dash kit do you have? Usually the sleeve will fit in with the dash insert. Any pictures?

I have the metra dash kit. What do you mean the sleeve usually fits in with the dash kit? Thanks!

The only thing that came with my kit was the dash conversion and the rear support bracket.

Edit again: The kit number is the 99-5200.

It would probably help if you have the right kit

The right model is 99-5208.

Are you kidding me? Three days of frustration could have been caused by the wrong kit :disgust:? This one said for Ford Focus and 1999-2000 Cougars though...

<Edit> I just did a search at metraonline.com for the 99-5208 and nothing came up? Is this an older model?

i take it your on about the "cage" like thing that your head unit slots into? if your trying to put your headunit at the top of the hole in your dash it will slide down unless you put a couple of short self tapping screws in to help support it? if your trying to put it in the bottom of the hole it should be as the other guys say just push it into the hole till it wont go in any more then just push as many tabs out as you can with screw driver etc it should stay in no probs?

Ya, I was trying to put it on the top of the dash opening. The kit I have won't fit if I flip it (the corners on the top catch on the dash). I think I may just take it back and look for a kit that will let me mount the radio in the bottom. Thanks a lot everyone for your help!
