I have a 2000 automatic transmision and for some reason it won't go anywhere. It's happened 3 times so far where I try to reverse and it just won't go into gear. The first time it just did it once then it worked, the second time it was because my trunk latch was open(some crazy safety feature) but now the third time it just won't work. I can shift down into reverse but my reverse lights don't come on and it doesn't go into gear and I can't shift past reverse, I can't even put it in neutral. All your help would be appreciated.

Well, are you still under warranty? Cause I'd just take it in.

But does the car rock or do you feel any sort of sign the car has shifted into gear when you move the shifter around? Sounds like a tranny failure.

I'm not under warrenty anymore, so thats not an option. And there are no signs of it going into gear. There isn't any clicking or movement what so ever.

Well, aside from telling you your transmission failed I'd take apart that center console around the shifter & check for anything that maybe be jammed, broked, or unhooked.

I'd really like to hope it's something as easy as a clip breaking & the shift knob isn't pulling the line to put it in gear.

I had this happen due to the shift indicator light bulb falling out of the housing and getting smashed into the track of the shifter. My fault from taking it off too many times, but a little bit of silocone kept it in place.
