My fellow owners,
Relatively new to Cougar ownership, I am rapidly finding out that our options appear to be somewhat limited when it comes to the purchase of tyres. I have surfed, phoned and asked but as far as I can make out, it comes down to 2 or 3 manufacturers with a variable price range. So, a couple of questions,

Is there a dealer that anyone can recomend in the Essex / East London / Midlands area that will not try and charge me £150.00 a pop for Michelin's and a little less for Pirrelli's.
Has anybody tried (if possible) to fit 225's instead of 215's and if not, why ??
Has anybody used Expedia and how did they find the service.

Any help would be apprecited - cheers people.

You could try 235 45 R16, these are 4mm smaller in diameter (617.9 as oppose to 621.4 for the 215 50 R16). 235's have plenty of clearanceto the body, as long as the rims can take it. hope this helps

TireRack.com (http://www.tirerack.com) is a good site.

I don't know about shipping over there....

People,

For 500 sheets you can get a set of 17's and tyres delivered to you door. Mass improvement in looks and not a lot more cost than 4 tyres.
Why not dump the stock 16's and upgrade whilst needing to change tyres?

Stu.

completly agree with stu why pay that much for original tyres when a replacement tyre for a 17" starts at £56 plus fitting(bout a tenner by me) better handling grip looks etc?

Hello there

Found like you that Mich and Pir are at fantasy prices.

Have recently fitted "Kumono" tyres at £78 inc valve and fitting - Garage recommended.

They tell me that Kumono have a partnership with Porsche for fitting there racing tyres.

The garage also told me that for mileage these will last longer than either of the big names.

The garage is "Eastbourne Tyre Co." in Eastbourne, East Sussex

Regards

P.S. have not personally noticed any loss of grip since fitting :)

I agree if you can stretch the extra money 17 inch alloys would be good, or you could look for second hand ones from ebay. There is a place near me, on the a10 towards cheshunt that deal in second hand fully refurbished alloys with good tyres, all at reasonable prices, tel: 01992 624433 or www.alloywheelrefurb.co.uk.
If you only want new tyres then protyre in enfield,02083678555 or e-mail: sales@pro-tyre.co.uk They said to me that they can get 5 different types of tyre starting at £60 and they always carry 2 types in stock all the time
I hope this is of help

Cheers guys, plenty of info and some chasing to do. Wish I hadn't have bought the other half that Ka now. May have to wait a lttle longer for the new alloys but it's on the list.

Thanks again, one and all.

Hi

I am going to need to change all 4 tyres in the very near future (3mm tread reported on the service report), I did a bit of searching on the Internet & found a site www.mytyres.co.uk (based in Glasgow)which seems very reasonable. They are quoting £42.80 for a budget tyre / £54.80 for a KUMHO with postage included either to your home or they have a garage search where you put in your postcode/town & they show which garages will fit the tyre & deliver it there. I was hoping to upgrade to 18" wheels but due to my wifes Fiesta requiring major engine surgery it looks like I'll be staying with the stocks for the time being.
