The cat is down. this weekend was just horrible. driving around in tenn through the smokey mountains when out of no where i thought someone had rear ended me because the car jerked. well after that i could not shift into gears. just had a ford dealership look at the car and found out that the throwout bearing is shot. 1300 to replace it. i am so f'ing pissed
custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gifWow thats a lot of unexpected money to be shelling out. Any way you could pick the part up at a junkyard and maybe save yourself some money?

Why did the throwout bearing go:confused: Do you rest your foot on the clutch pedal? Was clutch not adjusted properly thus putting stain/wear on bearing? Is the clutch fork bent/damaged? Did you ever replace the clutch plate before? If in for the bearing, put new clutch and pressure plate in (hope that's included in the $1300). The bearing itself can't be more than $40 new, not something you get from a junkyard, but the labor to get it...well... the extra costs for a rental and going back for the car...it all sucks. I remember in the day when I helped out installing clutches and most of the time, would replace the throwout bearing to prevent it from haunting owner later.

well i am in tenn and i do not have time or a way or even finding a junk yard around here. the dealership here is going to have my car done in 3 days. that is the price for all the parts that i have in and the labor if they need to replace everything. tomorrow or i should say today they will have it apart and let me know what else is wrong. they said that 1300 would be the most if they have to replace everything in clutch. now why did it go. there could be many reasons. one is that the car has 92,500 miles on it. i did have the trans all apart and maybe it was never adjusted right. and third is that yes when i shift i noticed that i do not hit the clutch in all the way to the ground. maybe that is why it went. but before it went i was in the smokey mountains and driving around there it was all up hill so the car was doing a lot of driving in 1st and 2nd gear.
